Resolution of Wii Games on Wii U?

As people are probably aware Nintendo have recently started releasing select Wii games for Wii U on the Eshop, so far: SMG 2, Punch Out, Metroid Prime Trilogy & they are relatively cheap for a limited time at least.
I was kinda surprised that they are still rendered at the Wii's 480p there's supposedly been some graphical lick of paint applied to them, but I can't see any difference at all.
The Wii is emulated on the Wii U right?.. was wondering why Nintendo hasn't rendered them at a higher resolution, when they have it & the power to spare.. not possible on Wii U, too difficult/costly/time consuming or some other reason?

What do you guys reckon?

Those games were already programmed to run at that resolution originally.
Rig 1: Windows 10 Home | AMD A6-1450 @ 600/1000/1400 MHz | AMD Radeon HD Graphics 8250 | 4GB RAM | HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11.

Rig 2: Windows 10 Pro | Intel Core i7-2640M @ 780/2800/3500 MHz | Intel HD 3000 Mobile | 8GB RAM | Dell Latitude 6320.

It's easier to just release the wii game (literally just copy the game's contents to an eshop server so that people can buy/download it) than remake the game as a wiiU game since the console can already play wii games natively. Some wii titles will be remade (WW is a good example of this) as wiiU games and some will just be put on the eshop as is. Nintendo doesn't have the resources to remake every game so with this system they can prioritize giving the royal treatment to the titles that they feel need it the most while still allowing WiiU gamers to enjoy any wii game they want via digital download.

This sounds really similar to what Playstation did. They released a bunch of PS2 games to the PSN that you would download to your PS3, and then it would run just like a ps2. Although in the later systems without the actual PS2 chips in them, it was emulated

All PS2 PSN games use software emulation on any PS3.
Nintendo uses hardware Wii mode in Wii U. Also Wii U upscaling is bad.

What does hardware Wii mode mean?
Does it mean the WiiU's architecture is very similar to that of the Wii?

I'm pretty sure they're pretty much exactly the same. It can also play gamecube games so yeaaah. (You need the homebrew channel but it works.)

The WiiU contains most if not all of the wiis hardware in addition to its own. So it's able to play Wii/GC games natively without software emulation.

Yes it is an evolution of the cpu found in wii, no wii software compatibility would be possible otherwise without emulation if they weren't compatible.
