Resident Evil for Gamecube - actual status
Resident Evil for Gamecube is one of my favourite games of my life. Only a few comes near to it (like shenmue).
It was one of the major reasons i bought a gaming-only-PC last year and i got not dissapointed by Dolphin.
From time to time i test it with new Dolphin-Gits and here a short statement for the "best" Dolphin-Version.
1) "3.0 last official stable release". It has very good speed, but as i pointed out often here i avoid this release in the future. The problem are the memory-cards. They are not "stable". With RE it happens twice, that they got corrupted and needed to be formated after playing the game several hours. That was extremely frustrating.
2) The newest Dolphin-Git 3.0-749: wtf what happened? RE too has slowed down a lot. The opening cut-scene in the main-hall has fallen back into terrible slow-downs and sound-hickups. Not recommended.
3) Dol 3.0-578: from what i can see in the archiv, there has been made two updates especially for the memory-cards. 3.0-151 (Merge branch 'GCMemcardUpdates') and 3.0-577 (Merge branch 'GCMemcardFixes'). I took 578 cause it reverts some thing i dont understand but might not function. Its is the nearest build to 3.0 official with including the two memcard-fixes.
I compared 3.0 and 3.0-578 with the same settings and watched the framerate and noticed nearly no difference.
So this version is as fast as 3.0 official, but i was able to play the entire game without any memory-card problems anymore.
So this is my humble recommendation for this fantastic game.
