Resident Evil for Gamecube - actual status

Resident Evil for Gamecube is one of my favourite games of my life. Only a few comes near to it (like shenmue).

It was one of the major reasons i bought a gaming-only-PC last year and i got not dissapointed by Dolphin.

From time to time i test it with new Dolphin-Gits and here a short statement for the "best" Dolphin-Version.

1) "3.0 last official stable release". It has very good speed, but as i pointed out often here i avoid this release in the future. The problem are the memory-cards. They are not "stable". With RE it happens twice, that they got corrupted and needed to be formated after playing the game several hours. That was extremely frustrating.

2) The newest Dolphin-Git 3.0-749: wtf Huh what happened? RE too has slowed down a lot. The opening cut-scene in the main-hall has fallen back into terrible slow-downs and sound-hickups. Not recommended.

3) Dol 3.0-578: from what i can see in the archiv, there has been made two updates especially for the memory-cards. 3.0-151 (Merge branch 'GCMemcardUpdates') and 3.0-577 (Merge branch 'GCMemcardFixes'). I took 578 cause it reverts some thing i dont understand but might not function. Its is the nearest build to 3.0 official with including the two memcard-fixes.

I compared 3.0 and 3.0-578 with the same settings and watched the framerate and noticed nearly no difference.
So this version is as fast as 3.0 official, but i was able to play the entire game without any memory-card problems anymore.
So this is my humble recommendation for this fantastic game.Blush

Heh HAR, you really make me want to play this game (and finish it for once).
(I should probably rip it already >.>)

Thank you for thoroughly investigating and concluding which build works best for this game.
That'll save me a lot of hassle. Smile

Now on to ripping some RE.

Im glad i might help. "Investigating" is my hobby, especially creepy mansions Cool
I had great results with the following settings:

- everything default except:

1. videobackend 3D9, 1,5 x IR (not higher, cause you get a more harmonic screen imo, because the prerendered backgrounds still remain low-res), 9xAA, 16xAF

2. Copy to Texture with cache-slider to the left.

3. LLE enabled.

No other "exotic" tricks needed. 30fps always except the two save-rooms in the mansion. However, it doesnt matter. Have funExclamation

I keep on thinking 3.0 is an excellent build for RE series but I'll have a look to 3.0-578 (and other ones) when I get time. Nice to see there are real RE fans on this forum Big Grin

Thank you very much. RE is indeed an important little treasure in my life. Heres a view into the main hall of my gamer-room with the japanese REmake-Poster.

A true fan!
Nicely arranged too, with some nice atmospheric candles. (What happened to the left one? Tongue)

Whose STARS passes do you have?
I can make out Jill if i see it correctly, and 3 men. Possibly Chris, Wesker and one I cant make out. o_O
