The benchmark is available to DOWNLOAD HERE.

Looks like I'm going to be stuck with low resolution to get any decent speed here. Resident Evil 5 ran at full speed on almost all high settings at my native resolution (1366x768) on this laptop. Sad

Thanks for the update. Will be updating this post with results.

The game is pretty demanding, but looks pretty good.

Yeah, you're good to go at 1680x1050.

The RE5 benchmark had two modes, one where there was actual in-game gameplay and a mode where the camera was just moving around like this benchmark has. The actual gameplay benchmark had 10fps more than the video benchmark for me in RE5, so hopefully in-game RE6 will be a bit faster as well.

Just tried out the game, and it indeed runs a lot better than the benchmark.
I got around 50-60FPS in the beginning of the first Leon campaign. (2560x1600, maxed out, SMAA)
So far the game runs pretty good. It's too bad they haven't touched up the textures as they look pretty bad.
Guess we'll have to wait for the modders to patch that up then.

Just a quick shot showing how dark the game is with the brightness at 10. According to the game, I should put it at less than 0. But that's like playing with your eyes closed.

I like Leon's campaign so far. Could have done with less quicktime events which seem to be overly done in this game. Leon's campaign may not be in the exact same spirit as classic games but close enough for some cheap scares/thrills which is mostly what Resident Evil is known for, I've always preferred the type of horror Silent Hill games used to offer. I've had zombies jump at me from places and I thought, "Woah, didn't see that there/see that coming". Zombies are somewhat easier to dispose of than the classic games, they go down relatively quick if aiming at the head then you have more freedom to fight them in different ways. You can kick/punch them, activate a quicktime sequence to stab them in the head or knock them off of you, you can move while shooting, you also have a partner. So far there hasn't been large crowds of zombies to make them that difficult to fear and usually if you see a corpse it will likely spring to life eventually. In that campus I was kind of reminded of the Mansion in RE1 and there was thunder & lightning like in Remake. Can't wait for boss encounters later in the game, hope those are more difficult than zombies.

Paragraphs, use them!

But yes, I agree with you. I haven't played every Resident Evil game in existence, but from what I've played so far it does the Resident Evil name justice.
Really, the biggest thing I'm happy with so far are the controls. We're finally not playing with a tank anymore. (Atleast Leon isn't).

That's odd. What difficulty setting are you playing on?
I headshot nearly every zombie and I've had a couple zombies not die on me after 2/3 shots.

First impression:

I played through a very small portion of the game so far and the camera doesn't seem to follow the character properly. I got to the point where the jet drops from the building and then you have to run towards the camera. I ended up dying there a few times and then I just shut the game off. As of now the way the camera is acting, I don't imagine I'll be able to skilfully play the game because I can't accurately control the character as well as I'd like.

I'll give it another shot tomorrow, but I don't know.

Second impression:

I played for a longer period of time and I do find it to be pretty good after all. I do wonder why they ever bothered releasing the benchmark, though. From what I've seen, the benchmark is twice as demanding as the actual game is. So, what have we learned since my last comment? Make sure to play the game slightly longer than I did before coming to any kind of a conclusion. Smile

I'm running the game much better than the benchmark led on. I'm able to stay close to my native resolution at around 45FPS on mostly all high settings.

Ha. Nice 2 hour delay between those impressions.

The first campaign is the prologue on rails mostly.
The benchmark was really just a stress-test. There were a lot of zombies onscreen (which you'll never see in-game probably) and they were probably not lodded.

So, what do you think so far? Is it worthy to bear the "Resident Evil" title?
