Do you need some kind of ridiculously sick pc to run fraps with this or what? Hitting record drops the framerate in every game down to like 2-7 fps

depends on resolution, so this arguing is pointless.

If you want to try another software with less demand on your cpu then check out growler guncam.

I prefer growler guncam over fraps. Less hit on system resources compared to fraps, end avi's are smaller since it uses divx compared to uncompressed avi's of fraps, and it allows you to do simple video editing before forming your avi (growler records into .gcf files which you then can edit and export to avi's) . Also, the free version is full for 14 days with all options enabled compared to fraps 30 sec demo version.

Cons: No fps overlay like fraps has. Not as simple to setup at beginning compared to the fraps . If you on vista or windows 7, you would want to check this video out as it shows how to install it on those Os's (guncam was designed for xp and has not been updated) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU1geDZ-BxQ
Just of the video is to install growler and divx codec if you don't have them, move the guncam.exe to another folder, set in compatibility mode as xp sp3, run as administrator and you are set.

Growler guncam can be downloaded at http://www.growlersoftware.com

I have been using it for ALL my dolphin videos.
