Look closer. It's an FM2+ board. It's compatible with trinity, richland, kaveri (this year), and carrizo (next year).

But he's not trying to do anything with it that requires high end cpu performance.

admin89 Wrote:The integrated GPU performance isn't that great to begin with . It may be on par with Intel HD 4000 but the CPU performance will suck and that AMD PC cost over his budget

It's an extra $15. The drivers for the GPU are substantially better than Intels. Trust me as someone with an HTPC you do not want to be stuck with an Intel IGP. Pretty much every media player has problems with them if you know what to look for.

It's a no brainer

After rebate* is the key part. I hate dealing with rebates. I'll leave that choice up to him though.

I have a desktop with an Omega (yes, one of those chinese/taiwanese things) 550W PSU. Don´t really know how much it costed, I think around 2000 DOP (dominican pesos, my local currency). Considering that 40 DOP = 1 USD, it would cost exactly 50 dollars. Do you think it´s still not a bad deal?

Depends. We don't really know what PSUs from other brands cost in your country since import tariffs/taxes and such vary from country to country. You should generally try to steer away from chinese/taiwanese brands unless their products are unusually well rated/reviewed.

Well, this one seems to not be as bad as most people think -it has more than 6 years-. About other brands, there are some that are even more expensive (saw one yesterday selling at about 5000 DOP). Don´t remember the brand though but it was probably one of those that are pretty popular in countries like the US.

That's not anywhere close to enough information for us to answer your original question honestly.

Im going to have to agree with NV in that you should really go with that AMD APU, the Driver support alone is worth it. You don't need that kind of CPU power on the Intel chip for what you want, ive had enough trouble helping people with Intel GFX issues already (including someone trying to run Dolphin....). If you can afford the extra bit of money, i'd go for it.

I think I'd prefer to go with AMD purely because I just built a PC with an Intel and it'd be nice to build something different anyway. Seems that the mobo and the cpu both have $5 off right now which makes the deal even sweeter.

As for the power supply, this is the one thing that I need to be super reliable. Is Seasonic a reputable brand on par with Corsair? Also, should I factor into my consideration that the seasonic is lower wattage? Does having a wattage closer to the total power usage of the PC have any benefits?

Yes. They're been around since the 1970s and made PSUs for both the apple II and IBM PC. XFX, corsair, antec, and several others sell rebranded seasonic PSUs or PSUs based on their designs. The capacitors they use come from glorious nippon and are some of the best in the world. Their fans too. Their warranty is good, their failure rates are extraordinarily low, and their products have very good energy efficiency.

Sometimes. Depends on the unit. Efficiency tends to peak at slightly below the max wattage. It tends to be a fairly negligible difference though. Higher wattage PSUs tend to be bigger so I guess that's a disadvantage too.
