If you live in the UK $50 = 50 pounds. Electronics are so much cheaper out here that makes the numbers just about the same. (I'm a Brit living in the USA who isn't getting NV's quote name jokes).
Recommendations for mobo / cpu.

JT! Wrote:who isn't getting NV's quote name jokes Oh come on! Genuinely don't understand the jokes or understand them but just don't find them funny?

(I'm a Brit living in the USA who isn't getting NV's quote name jokes). Yeah, but I'm considering importing from the US. Thus my 60 quid would genuinely be worth 90 bucks. 03-17-2014, 01:41 PM
Not with shipping and customs.
Yeah I genuinely don't get why you're changing my name to dictators, and I don't really even know who Che Guevara outside of those shitty tees. 03-17-2014, 04:00 PM
Maybe you should read up on him then. I don't know about you but I never pass up an opportunity to read more about history.

I'm going to do some more reading up n soundcards. The Creative Soundblaster Z looks pretty cool. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6829102048 ).
Think there's anything better out there for less than $100? 03-17-2014, 04:29 PM

Your choice comes down to Asus or Creative Labs. And much like nvidia vs. AMD it's really just about brand preference/experiences. They both make good cards and drivers as far as I'm concerned. And just like AMD vs. nvidia you'll hear a significant number of people on both sides cursing the drivers or hardware of the other side.
Better? No. Not unless you get something used. Asus has similar quality cards at similar prices.

I may look into getting something used... but if I did, I might go ahead and use it in my own PC and then use the asus xonar dx for the HTPC seeing as though I spend 100 times the time using my pc than I will with the other. Also I see a headphone upgrade in the future of something around $120.
Any suggestions on what I should be keeping an eye out for used for around $100? 03-19-2014, 03:17 PM
Also, on the subject of jumpy HD video. CPU runs anywhere between 80%-100% when watching 1080 youtube vids. However, when I sent a 40 second 4GB fraps recording of a drunk me playing starcraft against someone who's been masters 11 times, it ran fine with only 50% cpu load.
Very obviously a software issue. |
