I ended up buying everything from newegg. As far I was aware most of the stuff was cheaper on there anyway. Generally I prefer to give more business to newegg even if it costs me a couple of dollars more. Is that processor that much better? Too late now unfortunately, but I'm sure it won't make too much of a difference.
Recommendations for mobo / cpu.

300MHZ and 40MHZ faster for the CPU and GPU respectively (5% for both) while using a few less watts.

So I got it all built up and running fine. My only problem is, even after installing the chipset drivers, 1920x1080 resolution is not an option. ANyone got any ideas. I'm using VGA (because HDMI overscans and messing things up).

Are you sure you completed the driver ritual correctly?
No but seriously make sure you have the drivers up to date and try to fix the HDMI overscan issue using the driver control panel and TV settings before moving to VGA.

I tried everything NV. I've been over it a few times in previous topics. The only option I have using HDMI is to use catalyst control center to alter the screen size, text always ends up looking messed up. I think I've tried to fix this issue on 3 different pc's now using the same TV.
Somehow solved the issue. There was a checkbox in CCC where it was using the reported resolution of the device. I unticked and it gave me any more options. The only thing left to do now is replace the cpu fan as this one is squealing like a pig in heat. 03-01-2014, 05:14 AM
Glad you solved it. Sorry I didn't respond, I was very busy last week.

Ok so I'm having a couple of problems with this system.
1. I'm getting horrible interference over the speakers. I was fine till I moved the pc's location and now suddenly I can hear movements on the monitor, as in when i open a new window the interference will start and stop shortly after. I'm using integrated sound with a 2.1 cheapy speaker system. I have the same problem when the monitor is disconnected. 2. Both 720p and 1080p are stuttering and jumping, at least on youtube anyway. 3. The cpu fan makes a high pitch whine, can I replace it? The heatsink is fine just want to replace the fan. If so what could I replace it with? (It's 70mm, can i just use any case fan or does it have to be specific?) 03-12-2014, 10:42 AM

Noctua fans are fantastic if you're willing to spend the extra dough. If not any generic is fine. And yes as long as the size matches and the fan can be removed/replaced you should be fine.

APU (AMD A6-5400K) for the graphics.
I believe the drives are up to date but I will re-check. Standard cooler that came with the AMD A6-5400K. 03-13-2014, 03:02 PM
Check if it's replaceable (the fan). Or just send me pictures of it from multiple angles and I'll tell you. I'm not familiar with recent AMD stock cooler designs.
I suggest a system wipe to rule out software issues. If that doesn't fix it then it's the motherboard keeping the audio and video circuits too close without proper shielding. In which case you might consider an RMA. In unrelated news my computer has also been acting very strange lately. I won't go through it all since like most of my hardware issues it's a long and strange story filled with lots of debugging work (if you can call it that). Long story short I will probably be RMAing my graphics card soon and living off my HD 4000 IGP for awhile. My entire system would freeze and crash whenever playing a game (sometimes even at the 2D menu screen). I tested this with multiple PC games and it's always the same. Graphics get really fucked up (checkerboard pattern with brightly colored patches speckling randomly and some patches of normality), audio starts looping endlessly, the video and audio freeze, and the entire system becomes unresponsive to any type of input. I got it to recover one time by quickly alt tabbing out of the game. It froze for a few minutes then gave the standard "nvidia display device driver has encountered a problem and has crashed" error message that I was expecting. I logged the GPU stats during one of these events and temperatures and clock rates were all normal. I even cleaned out the gpu cooler and replaced the paste just to be sure. Eventually it started doing it whenever I tried to boot the OS causing it to crash everytime. One time it even did it during POST somehow. By switching to my IGP I can boot again but it's still acting funny sometimes. The monitor flashes for a few seconds when waking up from sleep. And it flashes the entire time during the OS boot until it reaches the desktop screen, where it then goes away. So it could still be the motherboard I suppose. But the graphics card is more likely. I'll test another card to be sure.
