Real Wiimote Plus not registering sideways.

Hello, I am using the new Wiimote Plus and I'm playing the New Super Mario Bros. When I play it sideways, it still recognizess the directional pad is as if i was holding it vertically. Is there a setting I need to set? I turned off my sensor bar. I'm not sure if it needs to be on to detect if the Wiimote is sideways.

Edit:I was playing Mario Party 9 and it seemed to recognize the wii remote sideways fine. I'll try super mario again and see what happens.

is the nunchuk unplugged?

The nunchuk was most likely plugged in, that might have been it. I removed it when I began playing Mario Party 9. I'll keep that in mind for the future.
