Real Wii remote disconnecting on game startup

I have been looking at forum posts about Wii remotes disconnecting for about 2 hours and have tried many solutions to no avail. My Wii remote connects to dolphin fine but as soon as I start a game it automatically disconnects after about 5 seconds. I have no idea what to do at this point.
