If it is the controller (this is something I just thought of, it may not work), have you tried shimming the upper or lower sides of the shoulder buttons with a bit of paper or something similar?
I'm sort of certain that it's not caused by the adapter or the software, since my newer controllers seem to work just fine. I was hoping there would be a fix in the Dolphin settings but yeah, if I'm unable to figure it out I may as well stuff some paper above the trigger.
