What exactly is this setting supposed to do? It has no noticeable effects on my emulation even in the latest revision (r7251).

To my knowledge, loading a Read-only save state is supposed to load the state and continue playback from there, emulating what was just inputted. Right now, loading a state with or without Read-Only mode on has the same effect: loads the state, and awaits further input.

With the sync issues the Dolphin is currently having when playing back recorded .dtm's, I have to playback the movie from the beginning, saving states along the way, and see where the movie desyncs. When I find the inevitable desync, I load a state from a little before, and continue recording from there. I record for about 10-20 more seconds, and then I repeat the process to make sure my last input was recorded correctly. Sometimes it is, but sometimes only a second of my input was synced before a desync. This is fine for now, but eventually I'll have to sit through 20 minutes of video to see if the last 20 seconds of input synced correctly.

I'm asking about Read-Only mode because this was alleviate my pains of having to sit through the movie from the beginning to find the desync. If it worked correctly, I could save a state farther down the line a few seconds before I started recording, and continue watching from there. Does anyone know how to get Read-Only Mode to work correctly?

At the moment, read-only mode only controls behaviour at the end of playback (whether the movie continues recording or simply stops playback). This is partly because it was implemented before resuming recording from savestates was implemented, and partly because save states don't currently save when they were saved (so it would have no idea where in the input file it's supposed to resume playback from).
