On another note, anyone want to guess the specs of this PC?

That looks fun! Ok let's see...
The motherboard appears to be a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0). That board supports the X58 Intel chipset, with the Nehalem microarchitecture, and 4 to 6 cores. I'd imagine you went with a 6-core, cause like, that's a big feature of this board and it's interesting. That chipset supported not only desktop Core i7 chips but also some W, E, L, and X Xeons, so narrowing down the exact CPU would be nearly impossible. But it is definitely a single processor design. And it will be one of these probably. As a guess, from the size of that heatsink I'm assuming it's not a lower power L or E series Xeon, it's probably a Core i7, or a W or X series Xeon. But you could have just gone over with the cooling. Ok, GPU time! That heatsink shape is -classic-. The GeForce 200 series reference heatsink was so distinct, I would recognize it anywhere! But let's inspect further.... *google commencing* Yea that's definitely an Nvidia 200 series. It has the weird additional connector by the PCIe power, and those are definitely period SLI fingers. But which one *googles some more* Ah HA! EVGA 285 FTW edition! Spoiler: I'm surprised you have two of them but they aren't connected with an SLI bridge. I mean, SLI was terrible, I experimented with it with 275s (the singing BFGs I mentioned in this thread before), I know just how terrible, but still, it's weird to me that you have two and they aren't bridged. ┐(´-`)┌ EDIT: Oh I missed the text. Ok, the memory is hard. It's just the top of the heatsink. Let's see... Ok so, DDR3 with a heatsink like that is weird, I wonder if it's workstation specific? Oh! Found it. Corsair Dominator. I completely forgot about that early dominator design! It's specifically black though, so... It could be 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, or 6GB per stick, at speeds of 12800, 1600, and 1866. That's a pretty wide range. If I cross reference it with the motherboard's QVL sheet... that leaves TR3X3G1600C8D and TR3X6G1866C9D. So based on that, it's going to be 3GB of DDR3-1600 or 6GB of DDR3-1866. I would imagine you'd used the faster and larger of the kits, the TR3X6G1866C9D, but you have three dimms and the TR3X6G1866C9D isn't listed as triple channel compatible on the QVL! It's possible that it works regardless so I can't say one or the other. Plus what you are using may not be on the QVL at all, so, that's as good as I can guess. Now about that case! Well, it's fractal, so I'm assuming a modernish case. Micro ATX formfactor... a diamond pattern on the front grill so probably meshify... basement with diagonal chamfer... two front fans... Hmm. I was going to say a Meshify C Mini but the Meshify series has pill grommits for the motherboard cables, but this is a big slot, like the old Define S... Did they ever make a Define S1 "air"? *googles* Oh they kind of did. The Pop Air. So that's my guess, the Fractal Design Pop Air. Clear or solid, can't tell. That's a bit of an older case (though the newest of any of these parts, ironically!) but I remember it being rated quite highly. EDIT: Wait 2022? But it's using some 2015 panels! Well, it's much newer than I thought. I guess it's it was a cheaper case as it reused panels from the define series. Interesting! Also a 5.4in drive bay, nice nice. Put a smile on a face reading through your thought process. The Motherboard is exactly right (Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0)), I expect that was the easy part You were on the right track for the CPU as well, I did go overboard with the cooler as you mentioned (Noctua NH-U12S btw, they make adapters for these older sockets), the CPU is an i7 980X with 6 cores. GPU I was thinking would be the harder part, but you got it right as well (EVGA GeForce GTX 285 1GB FTW). I currently have them set up with a soft (?) SLI bridge, will replace them with a hard one soon. I'd love to try out some new Dolphin builds on the system. However, I currently have Vista installed, we'll have to see what I can do about that. I did notice that the top GPU gets much hotter than the bottom one (don't think it's because of the air flow, the metal bracket itself is what is getting warm). I'm assuming this is because the top GPU isn't idling, but the bottom one is? I never expected anyone to guess the memory so specifically, you got very close. They are Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB (2x3GB). Since I didn't expect any guesses, I took this picture before fully finishing the system. I have some Corsair CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9 12 GB (3x4GB) I want to put in. Not sure if it will work or not since they seem to be pretty high density sticks that aren't listed on the QVL and I don't know if the board will support them (I think 4GB sticks in the maximum, btw). The case is the Fractal Pop Air, I got it because of the 5.25in drive support. I didn't know the Solid existed till after I had gotten it, I kinda don't like the idea of the glass breaking. It's definitely a newer case, and I like having good airflow on these systems. 09-27-2024, 11:07 PM
MayImilae might be the smartest member of this forum because i could never guess with that level of accuracy the components of that PC

I'm not really aware of the details, but I got the impression that whichever emulator it was that stopped existing in the last 24h might have been a we'll give you $20,000 if you take down this emulator you're working on situation instead of the classic you have committed crimes against nintendo and her people what say you in your defence situation.
