We're all going to die. Brexit is akin to the breakdown of the league of nations in the 1930s, and combined with the increasingly xenophobic and nationalist attitudes which have been developing in Europe, and the impossibility of getting a US president that isn't a nutjob means we're doomed to another world war, or at least some kind of messy cold war where everyone hates each other.
Even if that is wild hyperbole, why on Earth did anyone in power think it was a good idea to hold a referendum on something which Rupert Murdoch disagreed with them on? He's basically controlled every important UK election since Thatcher was elected in the 1980s (technically late 70s, but whatever).

But yeah, they really shouldn't have expected that it would be a given that remain would win.
A majority of the older citizens voted to leave (aka those that don't really have to live that much linger with the decision), and a majority of the younger citizens voted to stay (aka those that have to live for a very long time wit the decision)

The big thing that did it was that the press has spent the last few years drip feeding people the notion that the EU wants to steal their jobs, ban their favourite foods, and make Angela Merkel our dictator for life, while not actually giving anything back to the UK. After a load of that, people eventually accept it, and most either don't care enough or are too busy being outraged to actually double check anything. Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the other ones.

Darn, I was writing a reply on the CarlKenner thread when it was closed and couldn't post it :/
Why does he jump to such poisonous responses as his go-to comeback?
Because he is a terrible person.

At first I just attended to an user report (KHg8m3r I think) when I closed the thread and issued that one month ban. Now that I've read the whole discussion, that perma-ban was indeed well deserved.
EDIT: I just got fooled. I was going to shout a "Happy 15k posts on Random thread!" but I just misread the post counter, it was 14099 and not 14999 EDIT 2: for anyone wondering, the count is probably smaller for normal users due deleted posts we mods/admins can still see...

What? Shots fired? Drama bombs? How did I miss all that?
*Looks around* Ah, it was in the Development Forum. I really need to keep my eye on that more often. Guess I missed it. Time to read what happened... maybe grab some popcorn. |
