Of course it's subjective, that's why I'm asking for opinions.

Edit: I'm using mint for now since it's been my on/off linux distro for the last few years for whenever I've needed linux for something. However I like to try other distros from time to time to see if there is anything that I like better. So to do that I tend to ask linux users what they are using in their day to day.

Edit 2:

Oh for the love of:

Yes but it's still annoying, granted a minor annoyance at best. There were a few such installation steps where it tried to download add ons despite never asking me if I wanted to have it download anything.

What application? And anything Debian based is always a good bet. Arch isn't a bad choice but the community sure is.

Ugh. I am now yet again reminded why I despise linux. Hours of time needed to fix even the simplest issues, all the while banging my head on the desk as it throws arbitrary restrictions in my face everytime I want it to do anything. This truly is the most teeth grinding frustrating experience of any OS by far. Hell at this point I would I would pay someone to remote in and start fixing things for me. If I do any more tonight I will scream.

@garrlker

Mosstack. It will run on ubuntu or debian. It can probably be hacked to work on other distros.

Niche application needs niche OS. It makes perfect sense to me /s

This experience is largely true of any significant piece of software or OS one's not familiar with. Nowadays, I can encounter a Linux-based problem and fix it with some quick google-fu and the command-line, like it's nothing. If you give me Windows-based problems, I will curse you out.

You should have seen the ordeal I was put through trying to get my family's main computer to dual-boot XP and Windows 7 years ago. I wrote a massive journal entry on it because it pissed me off that much and destroyed an entire weekend (my precious free time...) I should post it some time, that was a trip. I still get enraged with Windows for making that simple task impossible (apparently only for me, everyone else got it done just fine).

And don't get me started on how bad it is trying to set up a development environment on Windows that doesn't involve Visual Studio (I like mingw, it takes up waaaay less space). Heaven forbid you want to use Qt too. I wasted 2 whole days fighting Windows just to get something to compile, whereas on Linux it's dirt simple for me to through my code into CMake and g++.

6bit.net has been dead for a while. Shizzy stopped hosting it last year. I need to make my own site though, and start blogging about emulation (wherein 90% of my posts, I complain about how bad documentation is for Game Boy hardware).

EDIT: Looks like someone else is using the domain name for their own blog. It's not as cool as my old blog though.
