Wifi is up to something. It will never give you the max transfer rate. Router CPU, firewall rules, traffic from other devices, encription, wifi control packets will make it a lot worse. Also wifi is half duplex so it will transmit OR receive. Also lot of devices will fall back to 11g speeds if the encryption is not WPA2-PSK with AES. Anything else is not officially supported but may work
3. Why is the 2.4GHz band giving the wdn 3800 twice the performance when it's getting 5 bars in either band and the archer routers have crazy bandwidth in both?
5 bars mean nothing. You can have 5 bars and transmit at 150mbps or have 1 bar while transmiting at 150mbps and then fall back to a lower transmission rate and have full bars. On windows 8 you can see the rate in the task manager.
