With that 3DS announcement I'm glad I just didn't pull the trigger. And I shouldn't really as all I'm really looking forward to is playing MH4 and I'd rather wait for the new 3DS or a bundle at this point.
Wonder what new stuff Xenoblade 3DS will have, if it does have more things then I might double dip. As for Super Smash... that was a nice reveal. We've got to hear some of the amazing songs of the game and a few remixed ones as well. The game keeps looking better and better. You guys aware of the Mario Kart 8 DLC? If Nintendo does it, we all like it. Spoiler: 08-30-2014, 11:14 AM
Hopefully they can reduce the possible fragmentation by going the route the GBC took, e.g. some games being playable on both (the latter generation of hardware having reduced functionality). The one thing I really wish they would have done was up the resolution (at least at this time we have no reports that this has happened yet). The display tech if definitely available and cheap enough, though there may be hardware/software restrictions against going any higher than what it currently is. I don't care, my wallet is already open. My body is ready.
Ever since the XBC, I always thought to myself how crazy it would be to see it on the 3DS. Of course I dismissed myself at the time. But now... The resolution is confirmed to be the same: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/rele...l?link=rss Also people have looked at the code in the new update and supposedly found that the New 3DS has these hardware changes: http://nintendoeverything.com/rumor-new-...bles-vram/ 08-30-2014, 01:25 PM
I won't believe anything on the specs until someone rips it open or something and checks, and/or an official statement about it from Nintendo (unlikely). An update wouldn't have enough information for that.

Well its too bad SSSPwn is gonna get delayed due to the announcement, but the new 3DS seems pretty cool.
I guess they'd need to up the GPU to up the resolution, which probably would make the New 3DS more expensive than Nintendo feels people might be keen on, especially for something that not everyone will see the benefits.
Random fact, the GBC doubled the VRAM for the GameBoys when it came out. It also doubled the CPU speed. Wonder what the bump will be for the New 3DS CPU.
Considering the battery life increase despite the speed bump, they are possibly moving to a newer manufacturing process while they are at it. ...or just putting in a bigger battery, but considering the size isn't that much bigger (and the XL size is the same) I kind of doubt that.

It only makes sense that they go with something newer. The ARM11 MPCore is getting pretty old. There are plenty of ARMv7 designs they could go with. Maybe the expected software incompatibilities will come from using NEON SIMD instructions, which are impossible afaik on what the 3DS has now. Speculation to be sure, but hey, what's the fun in rumors if you can't guess?
