When's NV going to tell me which motherboard I want? I've seen more bad reviews for the ASRock Extreme4 than good, and my brother keeps nagging me to get my new parts so he can have my old ones.

Talk about reviews , MSI Z87 G45 has the many good reviews so far
I think it's not a bad deal for you though (Scan Rating : 10/10 , cost only 118.64£) Laptop: Youtube Channel (Vintage Tech/Watches) :: (06-23-2013, 06:20 PM)garrlker Wrote: If you don't feel like spending 50-60 bucks on a game you don't know if you'd like I understand, but if you see the last of us for 20-40 it's a steal. I'm not telling you to buy no matter what because I know you love RPG's and I only like certain ones so our interests are different, but for 20-40 bucks I'm almost 100% sure it'd be worth it to you. Money's not really the issue. I have more disposable income than I have games I want to buy. Even when I do buy games, I can't get "into" it; I don't find myself saying "Oh boy, free time! Let's play XYZ!" When I do play, it's like for half and hour, then I get bored. It's not a problem of new or old. I can't even play my favorites for too long. The only exception seems to be Advance Wars, which I've been playing for over a decade on and off. I could easily pick up The Last of Us, but I'm just not getting into my games lately, even ones I'm excited to buy. It isn't like I don't have scads of time to play them (I do), it's just that I can't find them interesting enough for extended periods of time. RPG, SRPG, FPS, RTS, Racing, doesn't matter, I'm feeling kinda meh about everything. I need to find something that'll kickstart me into Gaming Mode again. 06-24-2013, 05:15 AM

Also, in many situations, a console is cheaper than an equivalent PC, especially when the multitude of low level optimisations making the same GPU in a console faster are considered. You and the rest of the internet have convinced me. As soon as I can find a cheap used ps3 in good condition I'm buying one. And as soon as this game goes on sale I'm buying it. And if it sucks I will find you and force you to play glover on my N64 for 16 hours straight. Garteal Wrote:That might end badly... I sure hope so! It's so boring when they live. I'm not going to do your product research for you or make the decision for you. All I can do is tell you about my experiences. Which I have. I've had good experiences with EVGA (they no longer make motherboards), biostar, asus, and asrock. I've heard good things about gigabyte. I occasionally hear good things about MSI although less frequently than the above companies. Intel generally has mixed opinions. ECS is generally crap. Also jesus christ motherboards are expensive over there! Shonumi Wrote:Money's not really the issue. I have more disposable income than I have games I want to buy. This a million times over. When I was a teenager I didn't get to play many games since I had no money and missed out on a lot of classics. Now I have all the money I could ever want and a near endless library of games. Yet I have no will to play any of them no matter how world renowned they are. It might just be the fact that I've already experienced most of what gaming has to offer and everything I experience from here on out feels like just a different mashup of things that I've already seen and experienced. Or maybe it's just a normal part of growing up. Or maybe it has to do with how much time I spend reading about them these days. Or maybe it has to do with the fact that I now have so many to choose from. Or all of the above. I don't know. Multiplayer games are still fun to play with friends and the very rare game with a good narrative is fun to play through (although it still needs good mechanics unless it's an entirely story driven game). But other than that not much else interests me anymore. As I grow older books become more interesting and movies/games/tv series become less interesting. I've noticed this lately. Yet games still hold a special place in my heart as a wonderful combination of programming, interactive systems, art, music, and writing that can fit together perfectly to create an amazing experience.

Maybe I am just being lazy, but is there anything I want to avoid? Otherwise I'll just go for the cheapest board with generally positive reviews (and SLI+crossfire support just in case I ever want to use it) and make do with and without any other features.

Yeah I think you might as well at this point. The poor reviews indicate that their might be production issues or a bios bug with the new asrock boards. Which is fairly common for brand new motherboards. Remember to keep your bios up to date because I guarantee whatever board you get you'll be seeing biweekly or monthly major bios updates for quite some time.
It is cheaper to get one with a good audio chipset than to buy an audio card but if it's too much of a hassle I suppose you can always do the latter. Also audio cards pretty much always deliver better audio quality than even the best integrated solutions (similar to graphics cards). Starscream Wrote:

On the flip-side, I've been writing a lot more recently, and that's something I can easily get sucked into. It wasn't like that a few years ago; I could write, but I'd always end up playing games and never finishing projects. Perhaps this is just the way the pendulum swings. I've been using games, movies, and music as inspiration, but I guess it's time to actually apply my ideas in written form. Started on a new novel this week (Sci-Fi) hopefully it goes somewhere.

Decided on getting an alternate motherboard (the MSI G45), and now the Hyper 212 Evo is out of stock. So, what's the next best choice in a similar price range/something as good for less? List of things: http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hard...rs-air/all
