@Garteal: Again from Katawa Shoujo. Her name is Shiina (aka Misha)
@ED2: You brought me back (more or less) Go and make 900 posts! I am here, but not active. 04-18-2013, 06:40 AM
What do you guys think about 3D-PC-gaming? Anyone tried it? Related question: Did any of you order an Occulus Rift?

The consumer version of the rift hasn't been released yet, and they say it's going to be much nicer than the Developer version which they're selling now. At some point, though, I may well get one. I'll want it to be affordable and compatible with games I actually play, though.

The general consensus on the internet from those who have tried both seems to be:
3D: Meh at best VR: TAKE MY CREDIT CARD! PLEASE JUST GIVE IT TO ME!
"Normally if given a choice between doing something and nothing, I’d choose to do nothing. But I would do something if it helps someone else do nothing. I’d work all night if it meant nothing got done."

Yeah, that's what I took away from it too. I guess I'll wait and see how the Occulus Rift turns out. Especially in terms of game support.

You know what I don't get? No-one has made a 3D renderer which renders to a hologram (to my knowledge). When I last looked into it (aged 12) we still had to scan in a real object to make a hologram of it. Really, we should be able to render a 3D computer model to a hologram, and at the least have movies you can walk around in, or if we could render each frame fast enough, a primitive holodeck. We could use ultrasound, sonar or something similar that doesn't interfere with the lasers (so no LIDAR) to track where the user is, and make things move accordingly. The only problem is the fact that we don't have forcefields, so if you push on a virtual object, your arm will go through, but we can work on that.
Basically GIVE ME HOLODECK!!!
