Hmm, I started learning C++ in, '04-'05 but I didn't take a real class until roughly two years ago. I only learned some neat things about pointers, the rest was a refresher, but it still was a nice experience. Though I spent most of the lectures browsing the internet... :p
I don't know about you guys, but learning a new computer language is fun! C++ is ugly, yeah, but learning is fun.
I'm a bit more of a programming nerd than a lot of you though so it may be different for me

Well, any language can be "ugly", depending on your aesthetics. I began to learn Java right after studying C++ and JavaScript, but that was for High School. Haven't used it in years. I've seen some pretty ugly Java though, mostly Andriod stuff. Currently I'm learning a bit of GameBoy assembly to (hopefully) make an emulator (working on the CPU mostly now). It's an educational endeavor, don't think it'll be anything to replace VBA-M :p

I just think that C++ is ugly because there are so many special operators that do something similar:
:: to write the method of a class -> to access the method/member of an object through a pointer . To access the method/member of an object directly That's how I understand it at least. I'm also used to -> meaning Sto in my calculator too haha.

The first two, I can see your point, but the "dot" operator? o__O Ugly? It's used, like everywhere though, in lots of other languages :p
If those operators bother you, take a look at C++ templates You can make some visually unappealing code there. Though that says nothing about their functionality, admittedly. |
