Yeah, I'm still at the first sacred beast in BotW. I'll finish it at some point, but I have a bunch of other things I'm doing at the moment, plus Sonic Mania just came out.

Through I have beaten Ganon with all four divine beasts, I still have half the shrines left to do and two more Trials of the Sword. Still need to go looking for that Traveller's Medallion and some of the first DLC outfits. The Phantom Armor is really a boon, I should get it as fast a possible on my Master Mode save file.
Pro tip: Avoid fights at the Great Plateau on Master Mode. Just do the shrines in order to obtain the Paraglider and go straight for the Phantom Armor set afterwards. Some strong swords won't hurt you either. Blue Bokoblins deal massive damage and have a huge amount of HP with your starting equipment options. 08-18-2017, 09:34 PM

As someone who grew up on Sonic (I lived in Sega Land during the great Console Wars) and played the hell out of 1, 2, 3, and S&K, I think it's a blast. This is what Sonic 4 should have been all along. I still don't own a Switch. Maybe later. I wouldn't even begin to have time to play BotW with Horizon Zero Dawn sitting in my PS4, especially with the expansion coming in November. Also I have like a dozen 3DS games I still need to play 08-19-2017, 03:19 AM
I'm probably the only one who didn't play Sonic Mania or BotW yet.
I'm waiting for the PC version of Mania to come out and maybe later this year or next year I'll get the Switch. Need to clear out some of my backlog first. Right now, I'm playing SM RPG and Chrono Trigger. 08-19-2017, 03:44 AM
Chrono Trigger is undoubtedly the best RPG ever made (the Zelda entries aren't really RPG's, so Breath of the Wild can still have the nr. 1 spot) if it wasn't for the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC. Sorry Chrono Trigger, you have been beaten.

Just got Sonic Mania this morning, so amazing!
I have all the Sacred Beasts and 117 Shrines, but haven't beaten Ganon yet. Totally forgot about my 3DS once the Switch came out. Still haven't finished Pokemon Moon or some other games. 08-19-2017, 03:11 PM
Unpopular opinions/ranting ahead:
Chrono Trigger was definitely cool, awesome music (like that intro) and memorable gameplay, but for JRPGs, personally, it doesn't rank in my Top 5 (maybe not even Top 10). Best SNES RPG I've ever played (note: I have not played Earthbound yet) but not necessarily one of the best RPGs I've played. Not saying I don't think it's very good and worthy of critical acclaim, just that I've played a lot of A/S/JRPGs, and there are many games that won my heart and free time more than Chrono Trigger. Maybe that's because I never grew up on Chrono Trigger when it came out. When I started playing it, that must have been early to mid 2000s, so we were in 6th Gen at that point. I guess I just don't have that sense of nostalgia. Maybe the lack of nostalgia is also why I don't have a very high opinion of other SNES classics like ALttP. It just seems like a very large amount of people absolutely (in the Zelda community?) swear by that game as the best 2D Zelda game ever (if not best Zelda game ever). To me, it's just okay, not exactly a masterpiece. I played it, but I've played other 2D/3D Zelda games and had way more fun. My theory is that a lot of people grew up right around the time the SNES came out. They loved the 1st (or 2nd) LoZ on the NES, and when ALttP came out, it completely blew the older games away in terms of graphics, sound, and complexity. It made a lasting impression. The same could be argued for why people go crazy for OoT: it transformed the franchise in a big way just like ALttP. But for people who didn't initially experience the games when they made an impact on the gaming industry, they aren't connected strongly to that sense of nostalgia, and their views on are looser or tend to vary more. 08-19-2017, 07:57 PM
I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon and say that OoT was only alright. Certainly, at the time, it must have been amazing to see this big world unfold before your eyes, but I didn't grow up with an N64, so I only played it after the fact. There are just too many problems with the game to back it up, despite it being the first candidate for being called "the best Zelda of all time" (although BotW might have stolen that now).
First of all, the plot is completely uninteresting. Even if it hadn't been the exact same plot as Link to the Past, it still doesn't make me really motivated to play the game or give any sense of purpose to what I'm doing. I like to play Zelda games to solve puzzles and explore dungeons--that's all the reason I need. I don't need the game reminding me that Ganondorf is trying to enter the sacred realm, or how the gods created the world and left the Triforce. None of spurs me on; Zelda is not a game that needs a deep plot. You just need the summary and then what keeps you playing is the desire to see what's next, to explore new dungeons, to use your cool new items. Another major complaint--Hyrule Field is WAY TOO BIG. Holy shit, it is so boring having to trek through Hyrule Field every time I need to go somewhere, especially since it's so barren and there's just nothing to do there. The warp songs help a little, but you won't have all of them until a ways into the game, and even then, especially as an adult, there are places that you just have to walk to no matter what. It's just too uselessly big considering nothing important happens there. I have more I could say, but what I'll leave off with is just how lazy the "change" from child to adult Link's worlds are. In Link to the Past, the Dark World was a whole different place no matter where you went, and you really could tell it was a world changed by evil. In OoT, when you exit the Temple of Time, you're greeted with the Market being totally deserted, gloomy, and filled with Redeads. This also makes you feel like the world has been changed--or it would, if that weren't literally the only thing that changed besides Zora's Domain being frozen and Hyrule Castle being replaced with Ganon's Castle. As soon as you get out of the Market and back to Hyrule Field, everything looks exactly the same as it did before. The differences amount to Kakariko Village and Lon Lon ranch being cloudy, and Death Mountain having a red ring around it--all of these are purely graphical and don't affect gameplay at all. The world might as well be the same. TL;DR: Majora's Mask is the best Zelda, COME AT ME 08-19-2017, 11:17 PM
Majora isn't my favourite, through it is imo the most interesting and philosophical one in terms of ambiance, plot and characters. But donjons were not that good.
BoTW is so different in many ways it's hard to compare. The whole franchise is based on Alttp for 2D episodes (except NES ones obviously, and maybe DS ones) and OOT for 3D episodes. BoTW is the complete opposite of OOT recipe, to the point some Zelda fans I know got heavily disappointed. It is a very well done open world with all open world weak points : empty areas, postman quests, crafting, biologist quests...
From France with love.
