honestly don't see the endless bashing this dude it is getting for using xp 64 bit sure it's pretty darn crummy but for him it's free, and especially if he's mostly using it for dolphin why would you spend a minimum of 100 dollars OS on a $70 pc. I mean i can see where this guy is coming from. I have a pretty crummy inspiron 1525 laptop, and put ubuntu on 64bit 1) because it was free and 2) because it gave me more performance

Hi,
I'm using XP 64 too and I would switch to Windows 7 if I could, but alas it isn't as easy as it sounds. I have so many emulators and programs installed in XP 64 and it took me so long (years) to configure it the way I like it, that I don't have to question me if it's worth to start from 0 just for one emulator. And yes, I know: it's as easy as to change some lines (USE_SRWLOCKS and USE_CONDITION_VARIABLES) and compile it myself... I tried it.. I swear it... but I failed several times. I think the only solution would be that a skilled, kind and generous person could compile a XP64 edition build (changing those two lines of code). I'm sure there are a lot of people who's still using XP64. So please, if anyone could make us this favor, we would be eternally grateful. 08-24-2011, 09:23 AM
Yeah, I don't think that many people is using xp64, it's an horrible system, no offense, but microsoft wasn't good at 64 bit by then, took them years to adapt and learn with themselves. I'd say you should switch to 7 64 not because of one emulator, but because it's an incredibly better system in many many points...

Most emulators don't use the registry, instead they use configuration or ini files to store settings. Just find what directory the configuration files are stored in and copy these over from your XP/XP64 install to the fresh W7 install and also copy your emulators over. That's all there really is to it, it's not as complicated as you think.

Let's see... I'm not discussing about XP64 being a horrible system or not. I'm only explaining WHY I can't/'m not willing to switch to W7: I have all sorts of emulators programs and Pc-Games installed.
Sure, there are a lot of emus with a config file instead of a registry key, but the other PC related stuff is another story cause of obvious reasons (registry, compatibility etc..). It looks as there's a lot of people obsessed in eradicating XP64 from the face of the earth and I don't know why (a sect maybe ?). Anyhow in a future, if I buy another computer I promise you all that I gonna install Windows 7 or 8,9 etc.. but meanwhile let it stay that way. Look, if you have W7: enjoy it. If not: let's hope (as said before) that someone is willing to compile a XP64 build cause I'm, like a lot of other people, not able to compile it by myself. These are my last words, so: thanks to all for your understanding and bye. 08-25-2011, 12:15 AM

Yeah, wut? I'd very much like to benchmark and compare it, but... lol wut? In other news, it's VERY strange that this topic got revived less than 24 hours after I was researching again on Dolphin's XP x64 support, which included viewing this topic. O_o
