I dual-boot XP 32bit and XP x64, and I explicitly use XP x64 for Dolphin in order to get all the performance I possibly can with my CPU (Athlon 64 x2 4800+ OC'd @ 3GHz).

In short: yes, I hate it.

Why don't I use Vista or 7 x64? Because those will run slower, and like I said, I need all the CPU performance I can get.

EDIT: OK, I may be wrong, but that still doesn't counter the fact I don't have a copy of it.

Lmao..

Upgrade to Windows 7 x64. Not only is Windows 7 x64 faster, it has none of the compatibility, driver issues that XP x64 had and is widely supported from Microsoft and driver vendors. XP x64 is just a re-branded Server 2003 with an XP interface, not only was XP x64 not really supported from Microsoft, XP x64 also wasn't really supported by driver vendors and all that has changed with Windows Vista x64/Windows 7 x64. Windows XP x64 also had a wide array of compatibility issues, some applications and games wouldn't install because the installer gave an error that the OS was unsupported by the installer. Those applications and games required an edit to the .msi installer in order to install.

Besides all that, no matter the OS used there is little to no overhead switching to Windows 7 x64 that would impact emulator speed and overall performance even on crappier CPU's. When I switched from Windows XP x64 to Windows Vista x64, and Windows 7 x64 there was absolutely no change in FPS or overall performance even on my old Athlon64 X 2 3800+ PC with a Geforce 6100 LE. Same with a newer Core2Duo E8500 PC that I used to own, I ended up just sticking with Windows Vista x64/Windows 7 x64 because switching back to XP/XP x64 made no difference to performance. In fact XP/XPx64 ran slightly slower and created other issues I didn't have with the newer Windows Vista x64/Windows 7 x64 operating systems.

With that said and as a former XP/XP x64 user that hesitated upgrading when Windows Vista was released, I can now say XP is an abomination, XP x64 even more so due to the issues and lack of support that XP x64 has. Windows 7/Windows 7 x64 runs well enough even on older hardware to outright replace the XP x64 install, so dual boot Windows 7 x64 instead.

OK, I may be wrong about the CPU performance thing, I'll give you that.

That said, want me to use 7 x64? Then give me a copy of it.

Oh wait, you want me to get one myself? I thought you guys were against piracy?

You talk to me as if I'm so incredibly ignorant of the advantages of Vista and 7 over XP and XP x64, and I think I'd like to see you get Windows 7 to use less than 100MB of RAM at boot, which I've done with my XP. (FYI I run 2GB without a pagefile for max performance and HDD life). And don't tell me "unused RAM is wasted RAM" - it's all about HEADROOM, and I've only hit the ceiling when trying to convert a 4096x3072 video to MSU lossless (but Camstudio Lossless worked).

Seriously though, doesn't it seem a bit odd to support XP 32bit and not XP 64bit?

Seeing how I use my copy of XP x64 for nothing but running Dolphin (and an occasional SpeedFan), what makes it so crappy?

Also all my drivers work perfectly with it.

Also, you guys do realize that I'm just replying to the changelog, right?
r7294 changelog Wrote:64bit Windows builds now use SRWLocks and ConditionVariables(requires Vista/7, x64 builds will no longer work on Windows XP x64). Tell me if you hate that.

...
you are crying about speed
we just said buy a new cpu
and switch to windows 7 64bit...
better threading
better ram management
better scaling with hardware
and so on...

(go and install win7 on a netbook with 1gb ram... windows7 will use 200-250mb ram)
(go and install win7 on a i7@4ghz with 6gb ram... windows7 will use 1,5-2,0gb ram)
thats for caching and speeding up everything

your 3ghz is nothing againt the latest intel core duo...
i dont want to compare it with a i7... just think everywhere -1000%

Look, XP 64bit didn't cost me anything since I already had it, and yet again you're acting like I'm a total idiot about newer stuff being faster. NO DIP.

Want me to use better hardware and OS? Send it to me then. Until then, I'll stick with r7293 on XP 64bit.
