You devs and authors continue to do magnificant work. Thank you. I am curious.....are there any plans on the table to add support for quad core cpu processors? If so, would you mind my asking how progress is going so far in this regard? More and more people are upgrading to quads everyday so I'm curious what the dolphin authors think of this?
Quick question about multi-cpu builds

Hi, there has been a lot of talk about quad core support on the forums already. Here are some topics, but you can find more by using the search button on the top right:

As you can see this question has already been answered countless times by the devs...
Quand core isn't gonna be implemented, at least not in the close future, since there's currently no real need for more than 2 cores and that syncing the different tasks on each core is very difficult.

Yeah. That's cool I'm not trippin'. I do have a question though.... do you any of you know whether Intel or AMD are planning to make processors with significantly increased speed in the near future? I'm talking about processors that are around 4-5Ghz right out the box?

Your confusing clock rate with speed. For example an i7 running at 3GHz easily beats a core 2 quad running at 4 GHz in dolphin despite that fact that they are both quad core cpus and the clock rate of the core 2 quad is 1/3 higher. Clock rate can only be used to compare the speed of cpus with the same architecture (the same chip).
So if your question is "are they planning to make cpus that have stock clock rates of 4-5GHz?" then the answer is no. If your question is "are they planning to come out with some new cpus soon that will achieve better performance in 1/2 thread applications?" then the answer is f**k yes. AMD is coming out with bulldozer based cpus next year and intel is coming out with sandy bridge based cpus next year as well. Sandy bridge will use a new socket (1155) and bulldozer will have a new socket (AM3+) but will work with existing am3 boards, it will not however work with am2/am2+ boards. Obviously we can;t say for sure how these chips will perform until they actually come out but AMD has said that their 8 core bulldozer should be about 50% faster per clock than their current 6 core thuban despite having only 1/3 more cores. If you do the math that's a 12.5% increase in performance per clock for a single thread (although obviously this depends on the type of application being run). Both are expected to have clock rates similar to todays lineup of cpus. Intel has stated that sandy bridge will achieve up to double the performance per clock of it's predecessor even with the same number of cores thanks to avx (a new instruction set extension for 256 bit floating point precision), but I won't believe it until I see it.
