Hi ppl!

I'm new here, and I've being trying the Dolphin Emulator for about a couple of days now. The thing is that I'm experiencing lots of lag issues in several of my games. First of all my specs: I5 3570k @4.2, 8 RAm and a GTX 680. Now, these are good specs for a PC and I'd assume they are also good for this emulator. I know emulating GC games is difficult, and it takes a lot of proccessing and all, but it seems weird to me that Eternal Darkness plays PERFECTLY -like 100fpsish- but then Supero Mario Strikers or Super Smash Bros. Melee play really bad. I tried lowering the internal resolution to its minum as well as the other settings but still it lags quite a lot. In the case of Eternal Darkness and also Mario Kart everything is maxed out. My question is: Is there an actual issue that I could fix or is it just that the emulation isn't flawless and it's normal to experience this? Does anyone have lag issues at ANY settings with SSBM?

Thanks in advance!!! Big Grin

It depends on the settings. XFB and EFB to RAM are heavy CPU users as is LLE. So if you are playing a game where that isnt required, then dont use it.

Not entirely sure what it means or does. However its on the same screen in Graphics properties as EFB to Texture/RAM

Depending on the game, you can try LLE on thread. It can cause freezes or crashes though.

I'll try LLE on thread and see how it goes. I still find it weird that SSBM is laggy. Dou you play it? What settings do you use for smooth fps?

I do not play that game. You have looked at the recommended builds and settings page right?

It shouldn't be laggy with your CPU. Post your settings.

Btw XFB= External Frame Buffer

I did post my settings. I5 3570k @4.2GHz, 8gb RAM 2400mhz, GTX 680 Oced (just a bit). I'm getting lat with Mario Strikers as well Tongue

EFB stands for embedded framebuffer. It is a 2MB edram memory array in the GC/Wii GPU used as the framebuffer. Its contents can be copied to the GC/Wiis main memory, these copies are known as efb copies. In dolphin efb copies can be emulated with textures stored in video ram or as encoded images stored in main memory. The former is known as efb copy to texture and the latter is known as efb copy to ram. EFB copy to texture is much faster but is inaccurate to the way the GC/Wii uses efb copies and the contents of the efb copies can only be accessed via shaders. This means only the emulated gpu has access to the efb copies. EFB copy to ram is much slower but it uses the efb copies the same way a real GC/Wii would and allows both the emulated cpu and emulated gpu to access the contents of the efb copies. If a visual effect in a game relies on the cpu accessing efb copies then that effect will not work with efb copy to texture (since the cpu has no access to efb copies under that method) but will work with efb copy to ram.
