so,
sony confirmed that they were hacked and that user information was leaked to a 3th party.
they have the servers shut down cause they are hiring a 3th party to investigate the problem, and figure out what has been leaked.

One of my friends told me that this might be the same group of hackers who got banned from the PSN for repeatedly breaching PSN security. They have also found a way to override the ban.

I really doubt these hackers would steal info for criminal purposes. That kind of stuff is traceable. They most likely just did this to tell Sony that they suck --- and they are correct. Most corporations like these are dumbasses and whatever decisions they make, it is strictly for profit. Innovation is pretty much gone.

Gotta wonder about Nintendo's security now, they kinda have the reputation of having the weakest. For example the NUS downloader can snatch their updates etc.

actually, the security nintendo used was as damn good as sony's was

however nintendo had some big fail in 2 fronts
1) leaving keys in memory
2) a stupid comparison method used in a very important security code

if those exploits were never used, then nintendo would have a nice security. the reason you can understand what is coming from NUS is cause you (or the program you use) has the common key which is used to decrypt stuff.

sony on the other hand has
1) a debug region on PSP (and ps3 to apparently) that can access the PSN store without issues no matter what version it is
2) got their private key out in the open which has nothing to do with any software they wrote

and potentially 3(not sure about this since ive never maintained a database containing special data that i want to keep others out off)
3) get their ass hacked and apparently the internet has (in)direct access to the user database. why not make the user database (if possible) ONLY accessible from the PSN server alone? (that way you'd need to exploit some shit in windows server/linux before you can access it)

It is very likely Sony outsourced programmers from China to develop such a crappy network infrastructure and the (overpaid) manager in charge never bothered to use the time to check for any flaws. It was really silly to leave sensitive information not encrypted.

Look here: http://ps3crunch.net. Some of these hackers talk about the security holes and implied you don't really need to be an expert to find them. LOL. That's very consistent with my first statement.

Whether it is Nintendo or Sony, both are evil corporations.

While I feel very sorry for the people affected by this and hope the damages to Sony customers will be minimal, I think Sony itself deserved this for pulling a feature from an already shipped product. Karma has a funny way of working like that, Sony thought they were safe from the US government and then this publicity nightmare occurs.

All the more reason not to buy Sony products.

their products are fine (and top tier)

however, sony as been getting this image of being "the greatest compâny alive that does nothing bad".
in which this whole sony shit is a nice thing to see , and prove otherwise
