Wasn't UnrealEngine a LOT easier to program?
IMO, It's more optimized and moddable.

I can tell you by experience with its code...

Just look at Ashura: Dark Reign mod.

UE3 and all it's spawn are crap.

Personally I love cryengine2, you can do tons and tons and TONS of stuff with it which no other engine offers. With crysis wars/warhead, they actually cut back on some of the graphical prowess (ie over-optimization imo).

In any case, I'm a major crysis fan (can you tell? Wink )

Crysis runs faster on Very High on my comp than UT3. That's saying something about optimization. Crysis displays ~3 million polys at any given moment, is the only engine that uses volumetric particles, has Sub-Surface-Scattering which makes things look super real, every seen texture is 1024x1024 standard, with some 2048x2048... hell the amount of textures it displays at any time is insane. The engine is awesome and so is the game.

Oh, and for those claiming 'unoptimized' I put the source engine graphics into it, and it's graphics into source (minus lighting, because source can't do the right stuff) and got 2 times as many fps in CryENGINE 2 running both it's graphics and sources compared to source running them.

No, and it's graphics suck compared to CryENGINE 2's due to the fact they are trying to make it run as fast as people want it to. Plus they had to cut back for consoles.
Crysis on my PC(default settings, I need to get one with all my mods :3):

CryENGINE 3:

And just because it's sure to come up, Oblivion running on my PC (all settings at highest, with operation optimization mod):

Back from the grave and working on textures.

In my opinion, Source is still the best :p
What the hell do you want with terrain and shits if you got no real brushwork and no possibility to create complex entity systems.

@zurginator:
So basically all you did is ripping parts of prime's world with some 3dripper into the cryengine?
You should better start with a structure (e.g. how you are going to redo the gameplay, redesign the world entirely by scratch, and so on), you should only care about the graphics at the end.
Also, I don't think that the cryengine would be a great choice for remaking Prime.
Source would probably be the best for this.

Anyway, in my opinion Prime is still great how it is,
there is no solid point in remaking it.
you should rather spend your time and skills for something else.

I am not ripping anything. It is all being made from scratch. Source isn't capable of half what cryengine is. It's lighting SUCKS in comparison. It doesn't support POM, SSS, Volumetric Particles, etc.

You can basically do everything in Cryengine that you can do in source, and then a hell of a lot more.
Back from the grave and working on textures.

I'm STILL not mainly talking about the graphics, the Input/Output-System of Source would be really comfortable for such a project.
Also, why do you need support for stuff if you start from scratch?
Do whatever you want, people who know something about mapping and developing like me do know what I'm talking about.
Although, have fun.

A friend of mine is learning 3D modeling. Still in high school and just reading 3D books by himself... don't think he could help much (and busy with his own things anyway, he wants to make movies). Not much of help sorry.

Only have experience in mapping at the old Half-Life and UT99 based games, i did spawn some good things but that's from ages ago, besides, your mapping tools must be a hell lot better.
