Progressive Scan Gamecube

Hi. I've been a GameCube owner from the first few months of its release, so it's been well over a decade now. Unfortunately, in all that time, I was completely unaware that there existed a GameCube component cable. Now that I am aware of this fact, over a decade later, it's become far too late to acquire one of these component cables at a reasonable price. Today the price for a GameCube component cable has inflated so much, the cheapest ones available on eBay are 'used' for $150. Can you imagine paying $150 for a cable? I refuse and I also refuse to buy a Nintendo Wii and a Wii component cable simply to play my GameCube games with progressive scan.

I downloaded the Dolphin for one sole purpose, to enable progressive scan for The Legend of Zelda the WindWaker, Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4, Smash Bros. Melee, and Pokemon Colosseum; all of which I own. But unfortunately, I have no idea how to enable progressive scan in Dolphin. I've tried holding the 'B' button as the game boots, but the progressive scan window never opens. On the GameCube, after pressing the power button, the GameCube logo and intro appear (the start-up screen) giving you time to hold the 'B' button and enable progressive scan. On Dolphin, the game begins instantly with no start-up screen and there is no time to hold down the 'B' button to enable progressive scan. I tried going into Config-GameCube, and un-checking "Skip BIOS" but it automatically rechecks itself and becomes unmodifiable a game file is opened. I've checked "Enable Progressive Scan" in the Graphics-Direct 3D11-Advanced window

I really just need to know how to enable progressive scan for these GameCube games. I would greatly appreciate any information you guys have.

Thank you.

If this is true, how come there exist options to enable and disable progressive scan? Also, I'm playing WindWaker and most of the objects and the background are blurry. I've seen YouTube videos of WindWaker in progressive scan using a GameCube component cable and it looks way better than how I'm seeing it now on Dolphin. In fact, I think my GameCube AV cable looks less blurry than this.

Turn up the internal resolution in the hacks menu and ensure that "Scaled EFB" is checked.

Also the reason dolphin keeps checking "Skip BIOS" is because you don't have one dumped

Try first deleting the sram.raw file that is within the GC folder, then enable the Progressive scan option under the Advanced tab of Graphic Settings. Hold down the B button on the GC pad and then boot the game by double clicking it in the game list while keeping the B button held down.

You should get this screen (from Zelda Twilight Princess):

The game is displayed in Progressive Scan whether Progressive Scan is enabled or not – Dolphin currently doesn't even emulate interlacing. Enabling or disabling Progressive Scan does still have some effect, e.g. fixing/breaking certain games. (The FMVs in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, for example, also show noticeable interlacing artifacts if you don't have Progressive Scan enabled, though I can't say for sure that the inverse is true as I've never tested it.)

For clarification: Dolphins progressive scan option changes the reported behavior of the hardware. That is it "tells" the game whether the "GC" is running in progressive or interlaced mode. Some games change their behavior based on this but dolphin renders progressively either way.

That's impossible. Even with the bare minimum quality settings dolphin will always produce better image quality than even component output on the real hardware. Since dolphin produces a sharper image the background blurring effect that the game uses (DoF) may become more noticeable.

Turning up the IR will eliminate the background blurring. Progressive scan has absolutely no effect on "blurring" of any kind on dolphin or on the real hardware.

For reference, I was playing Wind Waker yesterday (well, more like forcing a friend to play it) with component cables (on a Wii), and yes, the depth-of-field effect does look pretty blurry on real hardware. I may or may not give you guys some comparison shots later.
