Obviously, a lot of things aren't as optimized as they might be. If you'd start a gamecube/wii emulator from scratch now, I'm pretty sure it might even end up being more accurate and faster than Dolphin. This is because the code base of Dolphin is REALLY old and lots of things aren't done the way they would be done if Dolphin was written today.
Problems with dolphin framerate (looking for full smooth)

I understand your point and it is completely normal you think that way, but the developers aren't making the emulator run "less smooth" because they want to, if the game starts dropping fps on newer build that just means your cpu is struggling to keep up, it's your pc, not the devs

That doesn't change the fact that dolphin devs (and other forum members) show sour reactions in forums and bug report site to comments and complaints about performance and stuttering problems. I mean sentences like "your pc is not powerful enough" (when is not the case) "shaders works this way" "it works as it should" "improving shader management would be a waste of time" "play again and again and stutter will be reduced, sometime" "if you're not happy with performance upload a patch to fix it" BTW, yesterday I saw that driver level vsync had some kind of interference with those hitches. And I can confirm that is not a performance problem neither a shader problem, it's framelimiter. Donkey Kong Returns (same results and framerate using native resolution or x4) Framelimiter off + Dolphin Vsync off = 100 fps in level 1, accelerated sound, no hitches Framelimiter off + Dolphin vsync on = 60 fps in level 1, accelerated sound, no hitches Framelimiter Auto or Audio or 60 fps = 60 fps in level 1, perfect sound, hitches here and there. So I will say again, in my computer (2700K@5ghz, 32 GB, Tri-SLI GTX680, SDD disk, Creative Sound Core3D.) using single gpu or sli, with hyperthreading disabled or enabled, in D3D11 or OpenGL renderer, framerate limiter had sync problems and loses frames quite frequently. 07-10-2014, 08:03 PM
Maldo that is vsync related and has nothing to do with bad performance. Your monitor drops frames if it isn't synced to it's refresh rate.

Sorry, I can't understand you. When using vsync ON and framelimiter OFF, the game is perfectly smooth (but only playable with muted sound, because sound it's distorted and accelerated). So, dolphin vsync works well. 07-11-2014, 12:59 AM

The game you are playing is a 30 fps game then or has variable fps, accelerated sound is normal since you are running it double the normal speed with vsync enabled and without framelimit (i suppose your monitor has 60 hz rate). In case you still don't understand just use framelimit auto and vsync for better experience. 07-11-2014, 01:05 AM
It is really easy to criticize something when you don't know the inner workings of it, much as each company or project, Dolphin has a set goal and the devs are going to prioritize what they think is best for the emulator right now. As for the "sour treatment" you speak of, don't expect to be treated like a child here, they don't mean to be sour, just some people are thick and they try to make a point, keep in mind Dolphin is a profit-free project and could easily just stop working if they wanted to. You can't just "buy" the "best build", not everything works with money, it's not that easy and sorry but if your pc is stuttering in games it's your pc's fault, if you think you can do a better job you're welcome to try, just don't criticize

I have played DK country the last month and finish the game again, also Ive complained about this in another time. The slow down in DK are because of shader generations (you must play all levels for caching but always there is new shaders) and the frame rate sensation can be fixed with VSYNC. The frame limiter maybe is not good in divide each frame time but 59 FPS IS NO FRAME LIMITTER PROBLEM. You must activate VSYNC and play twice time each level and dont cry
No need for complaints, if your having problems with fps then look for other solutions or alternatives, trust me there are solutions. When there is a problem there's always a solution somewhere. Most people demand this and that but the dev. are aware of the micro stuttering issues with certain games and are keeping that in mind. Be grateful that it's free and is constantly being worked on, not as you'd expect and go in a direction that you want it to go but take these things in consideration when you see game stuttering. I've played Metroid Prime and that game always has crap load of micro stutter, but hey what do I do? Lower the IR a little bit and your good to go.

Ok, forget that.
Framelimiter has a bug but everybody think is better to enjoy what we have. Thanks. |
