Problems in Windows and Linux

Okay, in Windows (XP SP3 x86) I keep getting the stupid 1 GB of contiguous memory bug even if I have over 1 GB free. On Linux (Kubuntu 9.04 x64) I don't get that bug, but it refuses to load .wad files. It says they are not recognizable iso's. Can anybody help me with either problem.
