While playing gamecube games, I have a problem where randomly the controls move to the top left, both the main stick and the C stick. I thought the problem was because I needed to increase the dead zone but that's not the problem. Even with the controller not being used the game will start to jerk to the top left over and over for a few seconds then stop and behave normally again for a few minutes.

I've been looking all over to see if anyone else was having this problem but I have yet to find a solution so I decided to ask at the source.

Ahh, sorry about that, I thought that was the correct area to ask in. What info are you looking for exactly, just the information I put into Dolphin itself or everything including my controllers and what the programs I'm using to connect my controllers to my PC. Sorry, I'm pretty bad with trouble shooting.

Click on GCPad and look at your controller configuration. Do you see any of the red dots for the Main Stick or C-Stick moving at all? If so, unplug your joystick (you are using one, correct?) from the computer and insert it again. Otherwise, but sure not to touch any inputs when booting up GC games. On real GC hardware, this causes input issues like you described, and Dolphin emulates that as well; happened to me once.

Yup I checked that as well, everything works perfectly fine until it randomly starts moving to the top left. It just lasts for a few seconds then returns to normal.

What kind of joyatick are you using? Just a thought, on Windows, when you select your device for input, you should see your joystick listed twice at least, one for DInput and another for SDL. Try switching between them to see if the APIs handle your joystick any differently.

Also, try a keyboard configuration, and once you start playing, just sit still for a bit and see if the movements happen. If they persist, the issue is with Dolphin. If not, you know it's something to do with your joystick.

I'm using a PS3 controller with motioninjoy to connect it to my pc. I also use the Dinput because the other one doesn't seem to connect at all for me. I'll try running with a keyboard set up to see if the problem still happens now.

edit: I just tried what you suggested and it seems that the problem doesn't happen when using a keyboard.

Sounds like the issue is with your joystick or Motion-In-Joy. You can try the open source equivalent to Motion-In-Joy here:

http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-XInput-Wrapper-for-DS3-and-Play-com-USB-Dual-DS2-Controller

You're using a wired or wireless PS3 controller? The link I posted, apparently still has bluetooth support in beta, so be careful if you decide to try it. The Linux kernel recognizes a wired PS3 controller like any other HID USB device, so it works right away for me through SDL. If your PS3 controller works fine for the PS3 itself, it's probably Joy-In-Motion's fault.

Thanks, I'll try working with this program. Thanks for all your help Shonumi.

Edit: I just wanted to give an update. I installed the program you mentioned and it worked like a charm, as of yet I haven't gotten those little jumps. Again, thanks for you help.

One day Motioninjoy did the exact same thing to me when I have two PS3 controllers connected, affecting my like-new 2nd PS3 controller with analog sticks perfectly straight up. Today I am running two bluetooth dongles with different drivers each used only for PS3 controllers, first one is BtSix, used for controlling whole of my PC, be it as mouse, media control, etc from startup (isn't it neat to JUST press PS button and it's ready to use for everything on PC?), another one is MiJ, used for playing PC games. It's updated to 7.1001 with SEt's offline mode Rev3. I've never put more than one PS3 controller to MiJ and haven't had a random movement for a while... I thought, probably because of poor bluetooth signal? Or maybe because it's fixed, according to http://www.motioninjoy.com/blog/motioninjoy-ver-060005-available-fixed-joystick-random-move-problem
