Sup guys,

new around here, hello world!

I am using the official Dolphin-PPA provided by Glennric for Ubuntu 14.04.1 64-bit. So far everything is working great! A big THANK YOU to the person providing and maintaining the PPA.

My questions:

- The .DEB installation listed in the download section claims to support the outdated Ubuntu version 13.04. Can it still be used for newer Ubuntu systems?

- Would it be possible for you guys to add the information about the Ubuntu PPA + installation tips in the download section for Ubuntu users?

Cheers,
Ocean

Well, our buildbot for Linux is a little messy and doesn't provide builds for newer versions of Ubuntu. However, the .debs provided in Download page generally works fine, at least in Ubuntu 14.10 which I'm using...

Hello there,

but the PPA does support newer versions of Ubuntu, right? Would it be possible for you guys to add the PPA info on the download page for Ubuntu users? I think that would be an ideal solution, especially if your buildbot is causing issues. It's also a nice way to keep Dolphin updated automatically. Smile

Cheers,
Ocean

Well, the last time I heard about it, there were some design issues with our current Linux builder. Basically it was set up in a way that's not easy to update in order to provide builds for newer Ubuntu versions and to fix that we would need a rewrite. However, builds already generated by this buildbot should be migrated to the newer one (if someone ever rewrite it) and that's where the things get complicated. There's a thread with more details about this but I'm too lazy to search it now.

In other words, our current buildbot for Linux needs some work to provide builds for newer Ubuntu versions and currently there's nobody interested in doing that. The choice was providing old builds or providing no Ubuntu builds at all. Parlane and delroth probably know more about that...

About the PPA, it's not official but it's managed by one of our developers, Glennric, so it's up to you using the PPA,the builds provided by our buildbot or compiling Dolphin by yourself (the best choice, but requires more work from user-side and it's not too easy to update)...

Hello there,

it's sad to read that no one has had the time to work on the current buildbot in order to provide new builds for Linux/Ubuntu, especially since both Dolphin and Linux are about Open Source one would think Linux would get some sugar. It's totally understandable though. Too bad I lack the skills...

Well if Glennric is one of your devs, why not update the info on the download page, adding his PPA + detailed installation instructions to it? It seems he is doing a pretty good job updating the PPA, which seems to support both older and newer versions of Ubuntu:

-> https://launchpad.net/~glennric/+archive/ubuntu/dolphin-emu
-> https://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/wiki/DolphinUbuntuPackages

Because looking at it the way it is now, a new user coming from Ubuntu wouldn't know about the PPA, unless looking for it somehow. I found out about it only by coincidence tbh. Big Grin

Cheers,
Alex

Well, I don't have more info. Website changes are handled by delroth and Parlane, try contacting them...
