Question
I would like to record some sound effects from a game, but the background music is getting in the way. I was wondering if the background music was on a different channel from the sound effects, maybe I could disable it. Does anyone have any ideas?

You'd be better off ripping the sound effects directly from the game. What game? Wii/GC? If it's a game I know about, I could probably tell you how to rip it.

The game is Super Monkey Ball 2.

A friend of mine also suggested that I record the background music alone and then invert it and add it to the sound effects in order to cancel it out. I am thinking about trying that if it's impossible to get the sound effects directly.

Looking through the filesystem, I see a snd folder. It contains a folder containing .adp files, another folder containing corresponding .pool/.proj/.samp/.sdir files, and another folder containing .dsp files which I was able to extract, but the .dsp files are just music so I think the actual sound effects are in the files in the other folders. I wasn't able to find a way to read those files.

Yup, sorry to say that I don't know where the sound effects are in this game either. However, if you create a thread at http://hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php, there's a good chance someone will be able to help.

I'm going to try the audio trick I mentioned. One problem I'm having though is the dsp setting "Dump Audio" doesn't seem to be working. I can't find the dump file/folder anywhere. I'll try one of the development versions and see if that works.

Hm, the latest revision doesn't have a dump audio option at all.

The background music also doesn't work on the latest revision so that's useful XD. I guess I'll record it with some sort of external audio recorder.

The dump audio option has been moved since 4.0.2. It's now at Movie > Dump Audio.

Thanks. Also a correction, the background music seems to work but not in world 7 in story mode. The stable version works fine though. I'll use the dev version to record the sound effects. Thanks.

OH and I found the dump folder finally. It wasn't in Dolphin\User\Dump like I expected, it was in Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Dump\Audio
