Pokemon XD Corrupt Save File

About 4 hours into playing Pokemon XD, I started getting a corrupt file error every time I tried to save. So, like a rational human being who doesn't feel like solving his problems, I ignored it and just continued playing, purely relying on save states. This was all well and good, but 40 hours of gameplay later, I'm at the boss of the game, and to continue on to the post-game after defeating him, I have to perform a legitimate save. So, now I'm looking for some sort of solution or workaround so that I don't have to completely start over.

I have a few separate save states near the end of the game, one of which is directly before the final save prompt. So, I have been trying to find a way to get the game to let me save at that point, but I haven't had a lot of luck. I've tried creating a new memory card file to save to, but of course Pokemon XD has all of that copy protection stuff, so when I do that, I get the message "The Memory Card in Slot A is not the same Memory Card used to load the save data. Please insert the original Memory Card in Slot A."

Any thoughts on some things I might be able to try in order to not have to completely start over? Thanks in advance!

oh jeez. You could try using the latest builds and try the GCI Folder as Memory card feature. I don't know if that will work, but it's worth a shot.

Could you explain what you mean a little more? I tried downloading the latest build (4.0-1983), but attempting to open my savestates causes it to crash.

Oh, right. Yeha, you can't even use the latest version due to savestates. I don't have a solution for you. The newest versions have a protection from the corrupt memory card caused by savestates, but since you're in an older version without that protection, I can't help you.

Is there no way to make the savestates compatible with the newer build?

Edit: Yeah, nevermind, that's not an option. Oi, well, unless anyone else has thoughts here, I guess that's what I get for not dealing with the problem sooner.

No, savestates save the state of the emulator. The emulator itself changes over time, so the "state" is different. You can't expect an old core of the emulator to load into a newer one. Formats change, the emulator gets more accurate, etc. It just doesn't work like that.

Ah, ok, that makes sense. I was hoping there might be something I could do with the GC memory card manager tool to try to get a compatible and not corrupted file that I could save over.

You'd need to ask LPFaint, but he's very busy. He's the one guy that understands memory cards on that level that I knwo of. Maybe he can find out the cheat protection on the memory card and help you bypass it.
