Im trying to run Pokemon Gales of Darkeness in Dolphin 5.0. But issus that were reportedly resolved in older versions of Dolphin are ever present in 5.0.. like lighting issues and stuttering. I turned off anti aliasing and it seemed to fix the lighting issue but stuttterering persists. Any advice?

Stuttering gameplay sounds like Dolphin's shader cache for the game is being generated. This behavior has not changed with 5.0, so all games can potentially stutter if the shader cache needs to be filled. Unless of course, you're referring to this kind of stuttering, as mentioned by the Wiki: "Higher settings and/or running in windowed mode cause frequent and annoying stutter". I can't comment on the lighting issues.

Out of curiosity, do the very latest Dolphin revisions (ones newer than 5.0) run Pokemon XD without these issues?

I have a much weaker computer than you and I played Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness without much of anything in terms of lag or stuttering. You need to give me something to work off of to try and narrow down what your particular situation is.

My guess is: Try 1080p internal resolution and set your Anti-Aliasing to 4xMSAA and see if that makes a difference, you might be choking your videocard, because my GTX870 6GB starts choking as soon as I go above 4xSSAA, but can use 6-7x internal resolution with some games. Also you might want to try turning off V-sync (this increases input lag, and if your computer isn't strong enough it will limit the framerate from 60 to 45, 30 or even 15 fps.)  And maybe try DX12 as a back-end since it is quite a lot faster on my machine.

Holy shit, SyncGPU + 4x IR + 8xSSAA. and people complain that Dolphin is slow. You'd actually be better off going single core than syncGPU with those settings I'm betting.

Lower the settings and see if the stuttering still happens. As in, 1x IR and no AA. If it doesn't stutter, then raise it until it does. You can also safely check "Skip EFB Access to CPU," since anything that needs it will enable it through the gameinis. I'm also pretty sure you don't need SyncGPU for this game anymore.

Unclicked "syncGPU", did Direct x12 as a backend, reduced settings to 1080p and 4 MSAA. had to reset the game oddly enough because save states would remember the stutter. But the suggestions helped! thank you so much guys
