Pointer controls don't work at all with a Real wii remote

I have been trying for the past hour to get pointer controls to work in Dolphin with a real wii remote (rvl-cnt-01). I have a sensor bar here, the same wiimote works with my wii u perfectly fine, but when ever I try to use pointer controls in Dolphin I get nothing. I'm using emulated bluetooth adapter with it set to Real Wii Remote, not emulated. Is this a known issue of some sort or am i just doing something wrong??
