Question
Hello. Recently me and my girlfriend have started doing a playthrough of paper mario: the thousand year door, with her playing on her computer, and me watching her video stream on mine. We've had multiple issues since the start, all of which I've been able to solve by doing various google searches and troubleshooting. We were able to play through all the way to chapter 5, and theres a certain point we can't get past, because the game keep freezing at that exact point. Its the part in the beginning of chapter 5, once you're on the ship. It happens when all the flame ghosts sink your ship, right when the mario shaped vignette zooms in to transition onto the next scene.

Heres a video of the first time it happened: https://youtu.be/VAa3H4Q-JoY

we thought it was an issue with her computer, but she sent me the save states, and i played them on the computer and got the same results (except when it freezes its just a black screen)

i'm at a loss at what to do, i assume it has something to do with the savestate/save itself. Sometime after the beginning of chapter 1 the save blocks stopped working, so we've had to rely on save states to get further along in the game, incase thats relevant

I have my girlfriends pc specs listed on my profile, and since i can't attach the savestate here, heres a link to it to see for yourself or look into it: https://ufile.io/a4x1j48f

if anyone could help us that would be great, and if more information is needed, i can provide more.

Relying on savestates is dangerous. What I would recommend in a situation like this is to start over from your last normal save, but, well, if your last normal save is all the way back in chapter 1...

How the heck did you end up using an almost 7 year old Dolphin version for this?

Anyway, even when using 4.0-5267 the state doesn't seem to load properly -- I get music but no image. The music also suggests to me that you made the state mid-cutscene, which isn't particularly useful for trying to recover data. If you don't have any other save, you're probably better off finding a save at the start of chapter 5 somewhere online and just continuing from there.

Oh, it's a Dolphin version that old...? The bounding box emulation was pretty bad back then, so I'm not surprised that the game breaks at some random point. I would strongly recommend starting over from a normal save using a recent version of Dolphin.

If you have a savestate from which it's possible to reach a save block (even if the save block doesn't work), then maybe. Otherwise, extremely unlikely.

we had to use dolphin 4.0 because newer versions weren't working with her old computer, we've got more savestates than the one, but closest save state we have is in the middle of chapter 4.

edit: can't progress further on that savestate because of crash

we have a savestate one room away from a saveblock, but theres one issue, everytime i try to exit the room to get to the save block, i keep getting an error saying "Invalid range in CopyFromEmu. 20 bytes from 0xc686a680". i've included an image of the error and the room that i leave when i get the crash.

heres the save state, incase its useful: https://ufile.io/zubztpop
