The FX 6300 is cheap, and the motherboards for it are cheap too, and they're decent.
The Intel i3-whatever is a little bit more expensive, but the motherboards for it are expensive as hell, at least for me. At the minimum they are double what the AMD equivalent is. Plus, the motherboard has to have certain requirements... so I don't know what to do. I know the Intel i3-whatever is better for Dolphin, but will I at least be able to PLAY some games at the lowest settings? (native with performance tweaks)
If not, do you think I'd at least be able to play those same games on a PS2 emulator?
Xbox emulator?
Please help me. I'm on such a tight budget...
Unfortunately gaming isn't cheap, the hardware or the software. You can't have your cake and eat it too. It requires compromises.
The best compromise for you looks like an i5 4670k, no discrete gpu, and a cheap $80 z87 motherboard. Your build will be closer to $500. The haswell refresh is coming out soon so your buying at a good time. Lots of discounts on older hardware. Buy a discrete GPU when you have the money.
No AMD CPU. Everyone says the same thing.
$80 mobo isn't cheap. Also, how would I be able to play games without a GPU? I'd have like 4 frames per second.
Here, this is my AMD setup. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Exoquatic/saved/4pwq
If you want to see the Intel setup, just take off the AMD + Mobo, swap the AMD with the Intel i3-whatever and add like $80 because of the damn motherboards and BAM I'm over budget.
Real quick. I'm going to bed, but I'll check in the morning. Is a quad-core processor okay for Dolphin? The reason why I don't want to go lower than 4 is because of that earlier comment someone made, and this computer is good enough to play Watch Dogs, I'm excited for Watch Dogs, not being able to play that would really make me upset. So, instead of a 6-core or a 2-core, what about a 4-core?
What I was originally getting was the AMD FX-6300, 6 cores, 3rd generation, the other one is the AMD FX-4300, 4 cores, 3rd generation. Are they both similar in performance?

I actually looked it up, LOL, they have identical single core performance. How much "single core" performance does Dolphin need? I could just look for CPUs with that specific amount or higher...
