I doubt that you would be able to influence people's interest in making a PS2 emulator by saying that you want a PS2 emulator. Those who have the knowledge and interest would probably already have thought about it. Besides, the Dolphin developers are just a group of people that do what they want to. Even in the very unlikely case that one of the Dolphin devs would start a new PS2 emulator, only those that wanted to work on it would do so, not all the Dolphin devs.

the perception that pcsx2 is inaccurate is far from true. pcsx2 in software mode is extremely accurate with a lot of game being very playable. Recent development greatly improved hardware rendering but it requires opengl 4.5 capable video card. From what i read is that a lot of the problems and glitches from hardware rendering is from running games above native internal resolution. pcsx2 has no choice but to put hacks in to fix these problems that only popup if you run games above native resolution.

Regardless of what rendering you can think of, its been how many years and they still can't get gsdx rendering right? Everything else from netplay to loading the discs is literally hacked together. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know that the ethernet port and HDD uses the same bus which is also why dev9 is for both and yet HDD doesn't work in dev9 and Host File System option breaks games. So keep fooling yourself into believing that pcsx2 is accurate because dolphin is 100 times more accurate then pcsx2. Not to mention the output from a PS2 devkit is completely different from pcsx2 and there is literally 0 resemblance (and you said pcsx2 was accurate). I actually laughed. It's not like the ps2 wasn't documented well. It's just that the devs over on pcsx2 care more about running games then they do actually emulating the ps2. 09-16-2015, 07:56 AM
Well someone is trying to do a whole new PS2 emulator called Play!
https://github.com/jpd002/Play- Maybe in the future it'll be better than PCSX2?
Play! already has an Android (and iOS is in the works) port and this sole reason instantly makes it very promising to me. I hadn't used PCSX2 for a while but I can assure you it's a mess, even when using software renderer. Fortunately, the games I tried with PCSX2 didn't suffer much from that inaccuracy...

you cant really compare the work of dolphin and the amount of time and devs working on it to improve every facet of the emulator to pcsx2 which dont nearly have as much people working on it. im not here to defend pcsx2 but despite all the hate pcsx2 gets its still by far the best ps2 emu.
For while I stop using pcsx2 completely because of the many problems with the directx renderer but the major improvements with opengl backend got me to start using it again.
@helios747 - I know you're trying to get across the point that the OP's suggestions are unrealistic, but I would prefer it if you added a bit more substance to your replies next time. At least explain why you're laughing so it doesn't look rude. Thanks.
Anyway, the PCSX2 team takes a lot of knocks for their emulator's problems. Their situation is not ideal, but the project has had some pretty big stumbling blocks in its time. Recently, they give people the impression that they are working to fix numerous issues. Just look at their own monthly progress reports. It's also not like a few of the Dolphin devs haven't made contributions to PCSX2. Everyone works on what they want to, so it's an individual choice. |
