Is Dolphin able to play ISOs burned on a DVD? Will there be any slowdowns?

It is able to play games off of burned DVDs apparently, at least in Linux from what I'm hearing in IRC. I don't know if it'll be slower though.

You can try the Boot from DVD Drive option in windows under the file menu.

I myself have actually never tried this. I guess I could give it a shot. Dolphin says it'll read from /dev/sr0 (my DVD drive) so I assume it'll work. Initially loading the disk image should be slower in comparison to an HDD (and obviously an SSD) but I'll check it out later if anyone's interested.

Obviously, i should've guessed. Unfortunately i suffer from OCD (just kidding) and i like to see my backup games on their shelf.
No need, i'll check out myself.

Checked out with Monster Hunter Tri and a Verbatim DVD-R...i must say the performance is far worse than expected, there is a lot of stuttering and framerate drops...

Dolphin supports running games from a DVD drive, but it doesn't implement any optimizations to make it smooth. It's not surprising you're seeing stuttering.

I used this in the past with Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess and it worked well (the only stuttering occurred when loading a new island in Wind Waker or when moving to a new room or area). In the other hand, Paper Mario and WarioWare Smooth Moves, for example, stuttered like a hell all time...

I can confirm that it works in Windows too
