Play with two ps2 controllers?

Is this possible? I plug in two controllers and one just ends up controlling both players. This is in Super Smash Bros Melee.

Yes is possible i do it.
go to plugin configuration (the part whit red line) and chose the second Twin USB Network gamepad for the second player.

i can't help more cause i never played a gc game only wii ones

Well, I just fiddled some, resetting the options a few times and restarting, and it started working. Just one of those things I guess.
