There are exceptions where you will run into loading time issues if a lot of small files are loaded at once, but for the most part it's fine. Wi-Fi doesn't work though.
I have my Dolphin games on a makeshift NAS on a HDD with a Raspberry Pi (Open Mediavault) and SMB sharing, connected to the router via lan cable, and 5Ghz WiFi on the client actually does work fine for me.
(My main PC is connected to my router via LAN but I occasionally use Dolphin on my M1 Mac Book Pro connected via 5Ghz WiFi and apart from very occasional stutters that might be the result of the wireless connection it's not too bad). Probably would be troublesome with 2.4Ghz WiFi though, never tried that.
