I was applying as much HSV noise as possible (this breaks up the blobby look Waifux2 gives) this makes it look better than the original and the Waifu2x. I suggest you run the textures through with some settings in Waifu2x (these are tips, I'll explain in a second) 16bit, PNG, UpRGB and as little noise reduction as possible (I think that value would be 1, since you need it but not any more than possible, I get back to that soon).

Okay here's what each does.

PNG is lossless so it's going to look the best, plus you can compress it with it still being lossless. I don't know if you knew to that you can batch convert within the Waifu2x program with these settings applied to everything,s o that helps.
16bit is just another further quality improvement.
UpRGB is one of the algorithm options (I believe I'm correct here). It's the best option to use when working with textures, the "Up" just means it's better quality than the normal RGB option.

And the low noise reduction will do two things, improve the original by, well reducing the noise that occurs when upscaling it, and setting this option as low as it will go (but not off) will ensure that it's not destroying the quality, which is very important because we only want it just a little better than the original (there's a balance between this, blobby look and having some noise, you don't want too much of either) so what you do with this image now is load it in GIMP and apply the most HSV noise as possible (we need the most it gives because of the way that it scales, it'll be just enough noise) now export that as another PNG file.

Now compare these three textures, the original to the Waifu2x one with PNG, 16bit, UpRGB and lowest noise options, to the one the same as before with added noise.

I'm going to add some pictures here in a second.

That sounds really interesting! I didn't know much about Waifu2x when I ran the textures through it the first time, so hearing that there's a way to make them look better is great to know! Would love to see those comparison screenshots! Smile

Okay. Took me a minute to get into a Windows system to use the latest version of Waifu2x caffe.

The noise gives a sorta false quality boost. Tricks the eyes because it overlays the blobby normality.

You might have to zoom in to see the details.

Yeah that definitely looks better, the noise makes it seem kind of more "real" than the other one. I have filtered quite a few of the textures in the pack, so doing this by hand in Photoshop would be a huge task? Is there a way to swiftly scale these textures using your updated Waifu2x version and then adding noise to them without having to go into Photoshop for every single texture?

Also you got Discord?

Yeah just contact me on Discord. I can't be sure since it's been so long since using PS, other than when I made a script to preform a task it always messed up. GIMP though, actually, I haven't use the batch feature yet, but I'm sure it's easy to use and works fine.

I can't send you PM's because you have it disabled.

I'm TechieAndroid#7340 on Discord. But I'm having 2FA issues at the moment so that's why I've been waiting, sorry for not mentioning that earlier.

Question
hey dude it seems as if there are textures missing for most of the caves? It was a real shocker to go from a beautifully made overworld to a super low-res underground (specifically White Flower Garden) Are you planning on updating these areas? Awesome texture pack otherwise btw! Cool

Oh, right - that cave is one of the few that doesn't have updated textures yet! I'll work on an update which fixes that (that rusty metals looks terrible!)

Hey guys, I needed some help. I have done everything correct with downloading the texture pack, however, during my cut scenes its like 2 frames per second and will eventually freeze. I haven't gotten past the very first cut scene of space lol. Any suggestions? And yes I turned on prefetch as well.

That's probably a fixed issue. Try using the latest development version of Dolphin, it's recommended.

Just updated to it and still doing the same thing, the first cutscene is a lag shit show. It only happens when I use the texture pack. Also, is there a way to just download the updates to Dolphin instead of downloading the entire new application and transferring stuff? Sorry, noob here lol.
