Phantom Inputs

Hello,

I am currently having an issue with Dolphin 4.0 and 4.02. When I am playing a game like "punch out" I seem to get phantom inputs from the nunchuck. My character will dodge and punch even if I do not move the controller. This happens in games like xenoblade and mario galaxy 2 where my character will be stuck running even with no input from me.

Edited To Mention: When I play punch out using just the wii mote there are no issues. I have also used multiple nunchucks all have the same issue.

edit: it seems to be an issue related to the directional sticks on the nunchuck. It will either refuse to acknowledge my momvents or just make its own type of movements.

I have tried to reconnect the wiimote and nunchuck to no effect. I have tried both Real Wiimote and Hybrid Wiimote.

My computer is a

i7 920
AMD 5700
16 MB ram
Windows 7.

I would be appreciative of any suggestions. I searched the forums for phantom inputs but didn't come up with anything.

Thanks,

thank you for your replies.

I just tried the newest dev build and the issue is still there.

I am using the Targus Bluetooth 4.0 adapter http://reviews.targus.com/8826/ACB10US1/targus-usb-bluetooth-adapter-reviews/reviews.htm

Is there another suggested type of adapter?

edit: it seems to be an issue related to the directional sticks on the nunchuck. It will either refuse to acknowledge my momvents or just make its own type of movements.

thanks

I've had this issue for forever with my remotes. The port on the bottom of the remote doesn't make very good contact with the Nunchuk's connector, so it occasionally disconnects and reconnects when you nudge the connector, thus the stick recalibrates with whatever position you were holding it in as the center, which obviously confuses it greatly. To fix this, unplug the Nunchuk and plug it back in without touching any buttons or sticks.

This also applies to GameCube controllers, and probably N64 controllers as well (though I don't own any to check with). Try plugging the controller in (or turning it on, if it's a WaveBird) while holding the stick(s) in a certain direction, you'll see what happens. In the case of GameCube controllers, there's also a button shortcut that lets you do this mid-game without unplugging or flipping the power switch.

Thank you for your reply.

I hope that is not the case regarding the remotes.

I switched over to the Toshiba stack and ordered the Azio bluetooth for a more permanent fix and that seems to have helped things.

The toshiba stack allowed me to connect a new Wii plus motion remote the TR version which seems to be ok. However, the old non motion plus controller still acts up. This is frustrating, because I don't want to have to go buy a new controller.

Maybe the contact is degraded in the old remote? I suppose in the meantime, the issue is fixed.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure newer remotes are less prone to this issue – my Skyward Sword-branded remote hasn't ever done this, IIRC, even with the same launch-era Nunchuks. You might be able to clean the port with something or bend some metal in there (or stuff in a shim) to make it stay in there tighter, but it's not a complete fix for what's ostensibly a port that's designed to let you quickly and easily plug things in and unplug them at the expense of having things stay plugged in...
