Performance with dedicated GPU

Good day folks,

I've been using ver. 4.0.2 with default integrated HDxxxx GPU and everything runs good, so I just though of a question. If I were to switch over to dedicated GT720M would I see an increase in game performance at all or will it just enhance visuals side and not care about the FPS performance?

Which GPU do you have in particular? the new 4600 cards from intel are pretty good (not sure if a mobile version is available).
Ideally it would only enhance the graphics but if the integrated GPU was bottlenecking the CPU, you'll get a performance boost.
You can test this by decreasing IR, if this yields a speedup then getting a new GPU will help performance also.

I have the i5-4200M+4600 but I haven't switch to GT720M because I'm a little scared of high power consumption. I just wanted to see if switching over would boost performance despite of the consequences in the long run (overheating) So in this instance right now my integrated is bottlenecking the CPU correct, or the other way around? So if I would switch over to GT720M would I get a boost? With integrated I can up to 2xIR, past that I get slowdown on moderate demanding games (Zelda, Metroid, Xenoblade, etc.)

Switch over and take note of your temps, problem solved. 2xIR is already 720p, which is pretty damn decent performance, the 720 should allow you to reach 3xIR in a few games but that's as good as it gets, there isn't too large of a performance difference between both. Since you said everything going past 2xIR results in a slowdown it's safe to say that the GPU bottlenecks the CPU at that, the 720 should allow you to reach 3xIR and maintain decent framerates on a number of games.
