I was given a non working laptop to me, it used to be my sisters laptop before it stopped working. I've fixed it and want to play some simple lesser-intensive PC games on it.

I have installed Sonic 4 Episode 1 via Steam however when launching the game I get a white screen, can hear the music though.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire with a Mobile GMA 950.

I checked that and it's listed. The laptop should be able to run this mediocre looking game, Team Fortress 2, Portal, Portal 2, Half-Life 2 (+Episode 1 & 2?), Silent Hill (2, 3, 4), GTAIII, GTA Vice City all work on this laptop.

>trying to run a modern game on a GMA 950
>wonders why it's having issues

Are you nuts!?!?! It doesn't even fully support the d3d9 standards. It emulates half of it in software.

Source games run with the GMA 950 for some reason. But that doesn't mean you should expect games from that era to run fine.

The GPU is apparently compatible. I'm not trying to run Crysis on it for goodness sake, this 2D game should work fine if there are several 3D games with better graphics that do.

Apparently you don't fully comprehend how bad the GMA 950 and its drivers are.

Just because X game looks better doesn't mean that your GPU should be able to run other games fine. Think of the Intel GMA drivers like an emulator, because part of it is literally is an emulator.

Try 3d analyze. It's worth a shot.

The game is compatible, the link garrlker posted even lists this gpu as compatible. There is obviously something else, that I am overlooking.

Am I missing something? It says "not compatible" when I mouse over the GMA 950.

Well it could be....and this is just a thought.....the shitty drivers.

Yes, mouse over all the other cards including some "modern" cards that list the same thing.

Edit: That list is crap, listing cards perfectly capable of running the game as not compatible.
