i notice that the overlay fps and the one at the top or bottom on the main window differ now days especially with the frame-skip.

i always use the one on top of the window.

Quote:frame skip always makes FPS go down, because if you set frame skip to 1, you're skipping 1 of every 2 frames. meaning the most fps you can get when you would normally get 60fps would be 30 fps

thats wrong.

skipped frames still count as frames and get added to the frame counter.

that means, if you have 60fps with 1 frameskip, the game runs as if you would have 60fps, but you only see 30 different.

but the counter cannot drop with frameskip, not for zelda(gc), impossible.

or you are still using 3949, that had some kind of bug here, if i remember right.
so we conclude that the FPS overlay counter shows the real fps counter :/
as in
what is really drawn

Sounds like Overlay FPS is only for the VIDEO FPS OUTPUT. Whereas the status bar FPS is the real game speed FPS...

Perhaps we should change one or the other so not be called FPS or make the overlay be called GFX FPS or Video FPS and the other to be called Game FPS and make it so that there is an option to enable Overlay of the Game FPS rather than the Video FPS.

or you could just put in an option in the graphics plugin of overlay FPS and another one of overlay VPS

No, VPS and FPS AND Video FPS are all different. Overlaying VPS would be worthless.

yes i noticed that too now.

i was referring to status bar fps as they represent the game speed.

that is also the fps you aim for with the framelimiter.

another issue was posted on the commit
i can confirm it (same thing happens here)

"General Comment:
i'm sure its just teething troubles with the new feature but if you actually set the frame skip to 9 and the framelimit to 60 then i've noticed the game speeds up/slows down/speeds up/slows down with dolphins own fps jumping between 29-62 and back, i've only tried this with one game so far which is SMS and on the non IL x64 version however if i drop the frameskip down to 2 or even 1 then everything starts to run smoothly which is strange as surely the whole idea of the auto frameskip is to set the right lvl itself so it should automatically change it from 9 down to 2 or 1. It sounds like the actual frameskipping is not getting fully circumvented every time.

i can confirm it too, look at the commit comments Tongue

i also mentioned this before in this thread somewhere.

it cant be fixed without breaking auto mode in all other games or game specific hack for auto mode (lol, what a strange idea)

well, that means it cannot be fixed at all.

in any case : auto mode is still better then full frameskip 9 in sunshine + you dont have to use 9 + sunshine runs great without frameskip or 1 maximum

thats why i dont really cared about it Undecided

Quote:It sounds like the actual frameskipping is not getting fully circumvented every time.

not my fault when games render unsteady frames.

its impossible to know if a frame was late because of a random effect or if it was late because the game runs slow.

as the second is much more often and also the reason why we want frameskip, i made it always think the game runs slow when a frame comes late.
