If you're using OpenGL try switching to Direct3D. That might speed it up a bit. It has to do with bbox emulation, it can be kinda slow. I even get some slowdown on my rig sometimes at high resolutions.

Thanks you ! It was the problem indeed... I just thought i'd be getting in more area a stable 60fps since i just left glitz ville and it was quite low Tongue... At least it doesnt make paper mode and ect lag anymore lol

Edit: Direct3D 12 seem even more stable but there is a few textures glitch and crash sadly ...

Direct3D 12 doesn't support bounding box emulation yet, so it's not usable for the Paper Mario games.

Yeah. lol, I forgot Direct3D 12 was added. I meant Direct3D 11, when I said switch to Direct3D...

There are a few areas in this game where it won't matter how powerful your hardware is, you're going to get FPS drops. Elevator rides for example are intense. There's also that station you stop at during the train ride with the evening setting, not sure what's going on there but my frame rate just randomly gets murdered running around there. After a minute or so it clears up. Same behavior is exhibited in Super Paper Mario in the dark rooms where only a circle is lit up around your character. As soon as you light the room, minus 15-30 FPS.

Depending on what's going on and where you are, using Mario's "flip" abilities will also cause frame drops. One such example is in Glitzville, again not sure what's going on there but the bounding box demand from paper flip abilities are just enough to drop my FPS below 60. The game seems much better now that I have a GTX970, but it also means I went to higher AA settings, so now I need to find some new mediums. Tongue

Awww sad ... Hope it will work in a far or near future since the perfomance are awesome on Direct3D 12 vs 11 Tongue

Yeah i did think there is a few area where you just wonder wtf is going on there to make your fps get so low ..... I have a GTX 760 playing on 16:9 1080p with AA and Anisotropic at maximum with v-synch since i hate all that screen tearing i seem to get and in a few area it's all good and nice ... And a few are pretty bad x) at least it's still playable Tongue *I must say it's almost cheating in a few fight to have your fps at 30 ..... It make it so much easyier to perfect block some enemy attack lol... Ain't like i can do anything about that so Tongue *

---------------------------
That's pretty much what i see when starting a fight on chapter 5 with Direct3D 11 and Direct3D 12 the difference is quite huge. Each taken at their lowest fps, Direct3D 11 going from 40 to 60 alway decreasing and increasing while Direct3D 12 was just marvelous Tongue, experimental but doing so good

One of the reasons the performance is so much better in this game when using Direct3D 12 is that it doesn't emulate bounding box, so adding bounding box emulation would bring the performance down. It would probably still be faster than Direct3D 11, but not as much as now.

Hello I'm new here and I am absolutely in love with the HD textures, thank you so much to everyone who contributed! A few questions, what's the difference between PNG vs DDS and do you combine these?

Also for Alternate Button Icon Packs are these supposed to be combined as well?

And unfortunately whenever I go up on the map with Mario, his face becomes disfigured and glitched but when he faces towards the bottom it's clean, any fix for this? Thanks!

Okay, so the difference between the PNG and DDS is DDS has less stuttering, but is slightly lower quality. If you want to avoid stuttering altogether you can turn on prefetch custom textures with the PNG pack. Smile
The PNG and DDS pack should NOT be combined.

Right now the only alternate button icons we have are for a Playstation controller. If you use that you just need to replace the buttons folder with the one from the Playstation pack. Again only use that pack if you use a Playstation Controller.

Also, can you post a screenshot of Mario's face being glitched? I've never seen anything like that, so it would be very helpful. Big Grin
