Paper Mario TTYD crashes on android

Unfortunately, Paper Mario is tricky to emulate on Android due to its heavy reliance on the Bounding Box graphics API(something Android GPUs don't support properly yet). As result, the game will crash at certain points and sometimes won't even boot depending on the device. There's no concrete fix for it yet, though I think there were some work arounds in older builds of dolphin that made the game somewhat playable. Err, no. Firstly, Bounding Box isn't an API, it is a feature of the Flipper/Hollywood GPU from the GameCube/Wii. Emulating it on Dolphin, however, requires support for some fairly advanced techniques that aren't always available on mobile GPUs or (more common) are available but doesn't work as expected due to buggy GPU drivers. 

Depending of the device, this result in frame drops or crashes when Bounding Box is needed, but that only happens when the feature is actually utilized by the game (e.g. on the first 10 or so minutes of a new game that would be the boat flip at the intro when Mario arrives at Rogueport, the multiple minions chasing Goombella shortly after that and when Professor Franklin go outside of its house to open the gate to the underground pipe). 

Nowadays, using an up-to-date version of Dolphin and switching from OpenGL to Vulkan backend (or vice-versa) is sufficient to prevent outright crashes at those moments on most Android devices, although the emulation speed generally goes down while the feature is being utilized.

TL;DR OP is always crashing at boot rather than on game parts known to use the feature and is using a Shield TV, which is currently one of the best devices to run the Android port of Dolphin (and that has zero issues emulating Bounding Box effects), whatever the issue is, it's definitely not related to Bounding Box...
