OS pairing with Dolphin.

Is there a consensus on OS pairing with Dolphin.
Linux has a smaller overhead compared to Windows potentially freeing up more hardware resources.
Is this something that has been discussed on the forum?

Look at existing posts, it has been discussed quite extensively. Answer is very clear. Windows -> Linux -> OS X.
